They've demonstrated distinctly variable judgement in recruitment and retention, certainly. I don't see any evidence of a lack of forward planning though.
Kosh .... Your right
1) Obst - I guess we were waiting for Wakefield to get into financial trouble?
2) Phelps - guess we thought it might be nice for him to spend back in Australa at the begining of the season?
3) Gleeson - I guess our strategic planning included knowing that Wigan were going to get rid.
......... Kosh your knowledge is amazing, our long term planning is clearly for all to see.

Are you serious?
FFS man - how were we supposed to [iplan[/i for Berro wanting to go home early and Turner being a prat? Should we have not bothered to sign Gleeson just because we hadn't [iplanned [/ito do so?
If that's your definition of a lack of forward planning then there really is no point in carrying on this discussion.

| Quote ="JMR"Lets be honest, when it's all said and done McKinnon and Heremaia are not the sort of signings for a club with serious designs on silverware are they?
One a 30-something full-back who never got near an Origin call-up, even before he had his knee reconstructed; The other a late-developing hooker who never set the world alight in our own national leagues a few years back.
Credit to the club for striking early, but I wouldn't imagine Wigan or Warrington wouldn't look twice at either player.
Just compare them to St Helens' two overseas signings so far. World Cup and Four Nations winner Lance Hoihaha and recently-capped Kangaroo Anthony Laffranchi!'"
Laffranchi's the oldest out of all of them, can nearly get on the pitch this season, recently capped by aus? As recently as Heremaia for NZ?
Mckinnons and Hohaia contracts finish when their both 32.
Troll, you've gave it away in derby week.

These two sentences are contradictory. You say that you don't believe they are deliberately planning for mediocrity and then say that mediocrity is our long term ambition. Which is it?
Why would a club with mediocre ambitions spend up to the cap and pay transfer fees for player?
Perhaps you don't understand irony?'"
I understand most of what you are saying but How Forward is Forward Planning - I and most Hull Supporters are sick of waiting. We have had mediocrity for as long as we can remember. This year unless we can WIN at Wembley it is another write off season. There have been to many and bringing in untried Half backs well I await next season with baited breath and a lot of hope.

| Keith Galloway due to retire? Bit premature for a 25 year old.
Signed to the Tigers until 2013 and one of those guys thats always
getting a mention from the pundits around Origin time. Would rather have had him than Jason King for game 1.
Maybe in a few years time though?? Hes a machine and would love to see him at FC.

| Good to hear that Heremaia plans to move to the UK as soon as October.
Hopefully McKinnon will also be settled over here in time for pre-season training.

You're making the mistake of thinking that forward planning means success. It doesn't. You can forward plan all you like but if the plan is crap you'll get nowhere. This is the point I made earlier on. The BOD quite clearly have a plan and are sticking to it for good or ill - so far it's not produced the results that the fans want. IMO that's because of a fundamental underestimation of the importance of a good coach with plenty of experience.

As Laffranchis only played 3 games all season and has been turned into a more defensive player then yes.
In order of preference I'd have
Hohaia
McKinnon
Herehaia
Laffranchi.
Your full argument against McKinnon is he's to old and injury prone, Laffranchi's older and is struggling more this season with injury.

Yes, I will accept that Laffranchi has had a couple of injuries this season, but we are not talking about a complete knee reconstruction like McKinnon (which, like it or not, set him back massively as a player).
A forward is always going to have a longer shelf-life than a back anyway.
Remember, only last season Laffranchi was an integral and outstanding performer in a side which was one game away from a Grand Final.
MicKinnon was on the scrap-heap, offering himself for 'buttons' after being released by the mid-table Warriors!
