| Quote ="Chris71"Have to disagree with you on this point. What this sport needs to be successful is a strong & professional organisation not the current idiots at Red Hall. One that is more proactive in promoting itself to an audience it can geniunely attract and retain not wasting time, money and resources on pipe dreams of making it a big concern in other countries.
Clubs also need to be self sustainable and not reliant on one or more backers. RL is not a majority sport in the UK and has to work harder to promote/sell itself. The day when money men rule the world of RL will be the death of it, you only have to look at what happened to Ice Hockey in the UK when Heineken pulled out. The BIHA ran the sport into the ground then the money men such as Sir John Hall thought he could do better or make a killing, the latter he did by killing off the most successful club ever in Durham Wasps. Since then the top flight in UK Ice Hockey has had more failed leagues aswel as teams in a short space of time then its entire history as money men think they know best.
Leeds and Hull FC are doing it right by making sure their clubs are self sufficient any other way is just fool hardy as sugar daddys can lose interest or need to relocate their funds elsewhere particularly in todays financial climate.'"
Agree entirely that clubs have to be self sustaining but to do that they have to attract people through the turnstiles who are prepared to pay. We "know" league is the greatest game but unfortunately in over 100 years we've failed to convince more than around 60,000 people currently that it's worth getting off their backsides each week to watch. The "famous" rugby league heartlands have clubs with broken down facilities getting a few hundred people and even the so called top flight clubs struggle to attract walk up speccies as evidenced by the cup gates. It probably is because of the "idiots" at Redhall but why have we got them? Why haven't we attracted better quality administrators , why can't we get bigger named sponsors? If it's because of Sky then they are the money men , they're already here. What's the alternative? Tell Sky to get on their bike , ban sugar daddies? Then what? At the moment there are not enough people watching league to rely on gate money to pay the players what they rightly demand and to pay the rest of the bills. Somehow the game has to be made more welcoming and attractive for investors and sponsors so that it's profile can be raised and the facilities improved. Generally money invested in a sports club is a gift cos more often than not you get nothing back. On that basis the only investors will be "rich" fans , there aren't many of them and they're not necessarilly the best qualified either. Money is a necessary evil and we have to get and manage our share from somewhere.

Open your heart to the new world this would open up for us all (and our red and white neighbours). A new period of shared love for RL and brotherly love betwwen two sets of (ex) rival fans. It's beautiful.

RL missed a huge opportunity in the 1970s when people were leaving soccer in droves and RL still had a terrestrial TV presence on the BBC.

After all, it's just a name.'"
But joking aside... I am a fan of Hull FC by name first and foremost, let me explain.
Now my feelings are;
1. Hull FC
2. Castleford
3. Merged Hull Side
After the merger my order stays the same;
1. Castleford
2. Merged Hull Side

From a postion of having been there, I was HKR supporter when we were in the depths of it, there was a Superleague team playing in the City which as a product was far better than what I was watching. I love RL ut I never once went ot watch a league game at the KC nor would I have. I'm afraid you're either on the wind up or you just don't get it.
FC having the only SL team in Hull had a virtual monopoly on new fans and the top out figure was about 15K, alternately the rivalry probably increases the RL supporting numbers to 21Kish, it also probably increases shirt sales and merchandising and certainly increases publicity.
Losing the rivalry would definitely lose a big chunk of what makes RL in Hull and to some extents England unique.

Really?
I'd much rather watch a merged 'City of Hull' side than a team from a town I've no connection with whatsoever.

Could I ask your reason why you wouldnt back this. At least it would be a Hull team rather than a team 60 miles away.
If HCC are to sell the KC I would make sure that FC get a wedge and are able to build a 20,000 standing and seater venue. With an option that International Rugby League can be played at the KC when required.

I don't have a second team, I have often gone to watch games at other grounds when Rovers are not playing, but the thought of a merged Hull team would probably drive me to watch elswhere, I couldn't get the passion for it after 48 years of watching Rovers.
