Who is saying this exactly? It would be rank hypocrisy, clearly, but whether getting Gleeson on a cheap deal would be "bad business" is another question.

I'm sure someone will. I received a PM about what he's supposed to have done despite stating quite explicitly on this very thread that I didn't want one.

I can't see why they're saying it's bad business. Getting someone as good as Gleeson on the cheap must be seen as great business, the baggage he comes with being the problem. Hypocrisy, I'm not sure either, we sacked Tansey for his discipline whereas taking Gleeson on would be taking a player who has been made available by his club.

It's a tricky one, definitely. From a point of principle perspective, it's indefensible. You can't bin off Tansey for drinking if the rumours about Gleeson are true and expect to retain some integrity on the discipline front. And we've spent years getting rid of the worst drinking offenders in the club. In that context it's insane.

However, after 3 years of watching utter bollox on the pitch, I find my indignation/outrage at the suggestion tempered by the fact Gleeson's a quality player and cheap as he'll have few options. How did it come to this?

He's a good player but if he's been sacked for discipline then we shouldn't touch him IMO, especially with his old drinking buddy Longy here.

I think this is why we probably won't sign him, as it's been mentioned on here Agar doesn't stand for any indiscipline and having sacked Tansey for his drinking I can't see wanting to take the risk of it happening all over again, even if Gleeson is a quality player and would improve our squad no end.





As you say three years of utter bollox on the pitch has probably made it come to this. He's not going to be inundated with offers so if we are really in for him, we shouldn't have too much of a problem signing him I wouldn't have thought.

Nobody's PMd me but despite this I'm absolutely sure we shouldn't be signing him.

Same on both accounts, a quality player on his day but that is not very often these days.

From a pure playing perspective I think he is what we are crying out for....and he would put Sharp away for fun...but with all the extra baggage do Rule/Agar really want to go back on what they said in the 2009 clearout about wanting to change the culture?

Then again look at NRL.....Todd Carney has done some really stupid things time after time but did Roosters fans care when he played in the Grand Final for them last year after they ended up with the wooden spoon in 2009?

I wouldn't like to comment until I had an idea of what he has done (giant hint for pm).

It looks like you sorted Westermans drinking out, could you do the same for Gleeson?

if the rumours are true then i dont think hull cant sign him although he would be a great addition. you would only get a couple of years out of him and it would give out the wrong message. Think carney/bird are different in that they were young so could be changed so to speak.

the gleeson issue imo is much wider spread than rugby fans would like to admit but hes been caught out and hardly has a good track record

Im not sure what gleeson has done but i wouldnt want him anyway as i think whiting deserves the spot after years playing a number positions, but if we did sign him i wouldnt have a problem with it afterall if warrington can sign a doggie fiddler without worrying about then why should we worry about taking on gleeson, why shouldnt players be able to make a fresh start at another club just like tansey has at dewsbury and no doubt if he behaves he'll get another crack at super league again.

Maybe they considered it just as a business transaction . Believing, the player's 'on field' abilities would be more of a benefit to them than his off field behaviour.
