I think Hall's problem is that he couldn't tackle a hot dinner. As a centre, there are still options either side, on the wing, the only other option is the touchline. Coming inside, off his wing excuses him from any sort of defensive effort.

The touchline is one of the best defenders on the park. It never gets pulled out of postion and has an impregnible outside shoulder.
