I think the biggest indicator of Gentle's coaching ability is that for the first time in a long time our team seems to be greater than the sum of it's parts. For several years we've been strong on paper and ordinary on grass, but ATM we have reversed that to actually punch above our weight and produce some impressive performances/results with a squad that still has areas to improve. Once we make those improvements we could well do anything.

We are on the up,no doubt about it,the future is bright,its black and white.

Completely agree with this and Wilf's opening post. Just hearing that we have detailed gameplans is refreshing; Gentle's use of interchanges and style are miles ahead of the previous era. Let's not forget we still have Moa, Ogre, Westerman, Heremaia, O'Carroll and Martin to come back too. A day to savour and for once we can at least have some genuine hope that things are on the up.

After the comments on the Wakey forum you can`t help but feel optimistic about the future now we have a coach like Gentle.

I just has some similarities with the begining of the Brian Smith era for me. This time with added extra that we have a board who actually have the ability to bring in top players. It's incredibly early yet, but it feels like we're about to embark on the brightest period ever in my supporting history........ It's been a long time coming.

Being sceptical and the reality of our severly depleted team (NO disrepect to anyone intended to our lads yesterday) yes, just how could we envisage such a fantastic result.

PG is obviously in that unique quota of rugby coaches who are of an ilk whereby they gain the respect of their players, they understand the game inside out and to the likes of Brian Smith can make good players become GREAT players and install that team mentality.

I agree with the Brian Smith comparison. Peter Gentle looks as though he has the same ability to turn average individual players into a great TEAM

Great post Wilf. Never a truer word said-especially about the Smith similarity.
Smith dragged a bunch of blokes from obscurity to the brink of greatness (just needed a bit more backing from the board with money) and we got to win the Premiership trophy against the odds.
Gentle will take us further without doubt, the teams bought into him clearly, now the doubters do.

He fumbled verbally with the scoreline for PG to correct him. When GL stated the right final score PG replied on the line of

The result said everything we needed to know about Gentle. He is the real deal and has done exactly what we'd hoped, we now can pick players either inexperienced or experienced and still play as an effectove unit. No more switching positions, just bring in a youngster and he knows his job.

His impact has been huge in a short space of time, our best signing in a long long time.
