I got a letter through about 2 years ago telling me my internet package was going up. It never did. I'm presuming this is just that price rise happening 2 years later. (which is about right knowing karoo)

Anyone hooked up the O2 mobile broadband dongle thing to a PC? is the signal any good?

wasnt there talk of starting to do packages for calls and internet with kc? sure i read somewhere it was looking to be more competative

Well I am mad and pay a wacking £29.99 for the best connection a speed upto 12meg( I think), when I download from home I get a speed of about 450kb/s.

I work in London and have a room there, when I am in London we have an 8meg connection and pay £6.99 a month and when I download I get a speed around 825kb/s.

They have a monopoly and can rip you with inferior speeds and high prices and we cannot do anything about it.

Don't you get the same speed regardless of your rate, its your download limit that is capped

I really don't know about the speed for all packages you never used too though, the more you paid the better speed you were suppose to get.

All I know is for a faction of the price out of Hull you can get way better speeds.

I got a letter saying was going up from 1998, to 2248. So have now changed to Mid 1 package, 12.99 for 3 months then 16.99 after. No contract. Seems a bit quicker, but I need a new computer so it tempers it.

I dont think its your download limit thats capped, I think the more you pay the higher priority you get, we all get the same speeds but during peak times, its the higher priority users that are more likely to reach the max speeds.

Being enraged about this when I moved to Willerby from Driff (where I had much cheaper, faster and better broadband from virgin) I wrote and complained to everyone about how a whole city can be at the mercy of a monopoly. Got lovely replies from everyone from ofcom to David Davies MP; which basically said there was nothing they could do.

I even tried to argue that I don't officially live ion the city of Hull so why should I be forced to take Karoo and KC.

i pay £30 a month for a 12mb and only connect at 2.5mb if i am lucky. then my top download speed is around 200kbs. If you get a slow speed they should charge you less as i pay the same as people who do get the full 12mb. On top of that the free KC modem that I had to pay delivery on TWICE as I never received it the first time kept disconnecting every 5-10 minuets so I had to buy another one. On top of that I had a problem once so I had to ring KC where I had to talk them through how to fix the problem at their end. KC are a joke and in my opinion operate illegally due to their monopolistic behavior

Contention ratio, higher paying subscribers generally get a lower ratio = (supposedly) better speeds due to having less people able to share the same connection.

Living darn sarf, I'm at the end of an old copper wire exchange that is very poor. 1.3Mb download & 400kbs upload actual tested speeds. However plusnet who I use only charge me £17.74 for Broadband (not measured after midnight), line rental plus eve/weekend calls with 300min international included per month.

Virgin would prolly work out better all round but I can't be d with the poor customer service, SKY also has a very bad rep for this as well as not actually connecting your broadband up when they say they will.
IF you ever get the chance to use other carriers, dont go to SKY or Virgin way too much hassle.

Did they miss off a zero? I know that the CR's aren't generally fixed anymore with the advent of ADSL MAX but if KC are saying you guys get 1:1 with the speeds some of you are mentioning that doesn't add up, not even close!

It seems the whole of the Hull netowrk is paying way over the odds for a less than average product.

We changed because it was cheaper but supposedly faster. Still only get just over 2 Mb/s. It's due to being about six miles from the nearest server in Cottingham apparently.
