How has it been headlined? The article has no more prominence than any other news item.

It just puts undue pressure on a kid who hopefully will turn out to be a good player but who is only 19 years old, has never played our game and with a strong wind behind him is probably a couple of years away from being ready for the demands of Super League. It wouldnt have been the way i would have done it.'"
Define headline.
All the club have done is announced online and done a short q+a with him. no press conference no comments by Agar
hardly what i would define as "headline"

How odd. So it's not OK for one club to announce a signing, ie a fact, something that has actually happened. But it's fine for another to string fans along for 2 years with regular pronouncements of imminent ground extensions? Personally I think your comment should be deleted immediately as it's not "constructive".

| All the potential; will be a test of FC's coaching as he has the raw materials and physical gifts; if they can't make a superleague player out of him they should pack up and go home.

He's powerful, extremely quick for a big fella and offloads well. On the negative side, for a backrower in union he lacked the necessary work ethic; were perpetual motion is needed as opposed to bursts. '"
Indeed the "perpetual motion" where the ball is in play for a fraction of the time it is in RL. This would not be an asset for him if he lacks the stamina for even yawnion - but he probably hasn't benefitted from full training yet.
Quote ="bringbackbuck"Those of you questioning why a top class rugby union club hasn't snapped him up are deluding yourselves if you think people get missed nowadays; the scouting system and youth development systems are light years ahead of league clubs and the money on offer is superior. Clubs have passed on him I believe.'"
There must be some other reason why the England yawnion side is alarmingly deficient in basic skills then seeing as they are getting all these superior athletes and putting them through state of the art development schemes. If anything the opposite is true, "top class" yawnion sucks and coaches the talent out of players. Iestyn Harris is the poster boy for this but there are plenty of other examples. Missing out on this "top level" coaching is probably the best thing that could have happened to him.
Anyway good luck to the bloke and lets hope he comes through.

He's got age on his side, plus the raw ability needed. Hopefully he'll take to training well this season, have a good off season, then we can look at loaning him out to a team like York on a dual-contract scheme next season to give him some first-team game time, whilst also continuing his development at the club.
It's a no-lose situation for the club. If he makes it, he'll become a Super League player on a low wage initially. If not, we won't have spent much on him and we can move on.

| I was talking to one of his former team mates at Hull yesterday and he told me that Lawrence would have all of the skills needed to play League, but is too soft for Super League, going down with injuries every other time that he is tackled etc. Hopefully spending time training with players like Fitz and O'Meley will develop this, but I'm not sure toughness is something that can be taught.

they are becoming more like a ''feeder'' club for us at the moment,as in sending our youngsters there for 1st team experience.a number of ex-acadamy players and hull amateurs seem to take the same route.namely, peacock, mitchell, freer, tuffour, waterman, waller etc.

| Hull need to take their time with him and play him when he is ready even if that isnt until next season, he might make it and he might not.
Hull cant really lose in this situation.

It is something that tends to happen in the amateur game due to the lack of fitness. Players go down and feign injury to get a bit of a breather. It is a case of wait and see how he turns out.

I think you'll find Hull RUFC are very far from amateur, people regularly feign injury in union to give themselves and their teams respite; this happens in all echelons of the game right up to and including test matches. In union you need to keep moving; there's no goign to stand in backplay with your hands on your hips and watch Ewan Dowes get smashed back on a carry whilst you catch your breath!
However I don't think the correspondent above was suggesting that Pearce indulged in technical "injuredness"

| No you just get to stand about watch the ball being kicked from one side to the other or watch a ruck form Anyway i digress
With him saying he was going down injured every other time he was tackled i presumed he meant during each game otherwise he would have had very little gametime in his small rugby career.

Are you suggesting that union front rowers are fitter than their league counterparts then?

I would say that professional Union front row players are as fit as their league counterparts; but fitness is sport specific and therefore the type of fitness needed is different. General level of fitness I believe is now similar since Union has caught up since turning pro.
If you measure how fast a player is and how far they could run then of course the league prop would be fitter; however if you looked at bench, squat and the ability to push repeatedly at high impact I am sure the union man's stats would be superior.
I don't understand the need of many league supporters to try and do union down; if you don't like it, fine but don't be narrow minded in your approach.. I for one was brought up on both games and enjoy both (though one more than the other) but don't feel the need to bad mouth the other.

Careful, the southern air is getting to you.
I have always played both codes and enjoy them both (much prefer League but that is a personel preference). We have no League in Guernsey so I play for the local Vets team and coach my son's team.
