To be fair that was never implied was it?
Although it was a ridiculous suggestion to release Horne.

Is it that ridiculous? If a player who commands top wages such as Richard Horne and has consistantly been poor this season, played next to no games last season what value is he given to the current side? In business and sport you cant be nostalgic in making decisions and on form over 2 years Richard Horne has not performed. What he has done for the club previously should not be considered when taking into account what he offers the team now.
However, I dont think Richard Horne will ever get released from the club and I hope that we get the Richard Horne back playing how he was in 2005/2006 and then we will be getting value for money from him again.
It is also my opinion that no player should have a testomonial at the age of 26 and it should be left till later in their careers.

I felt that it was due to the comment about having the logo displayed. However, I phrased my return comment as a question as I wasn't sure that the implication was intended.
It certainly is ridiculous to suggest releasing Horne a year early off the back of one bad season, especially given the circumstances (both personal and team) under which he's playing. However, next season he really does need to get back on form as I will agree that we can't afford to have such a crucial player under-performing if we're going to have a successful season.

Why?
He's given Hull a decade's service whether he is 26 or 36. With the contract system it's quite rare these days for players to spend ten years at one club and when it happens it should be rewarded regardless of their age.

Bear in mind that we're not talking about not renewing, we're talking about terminating early. If you do that to every player in Horne's position (a bad season following a horrendous injury) then pretty soon nobody will sign for you.
Also, past performances always influence retention decisions unless circumstances arise where a club is certain that those performance levels will never be achieved again.

A testimonial is awarded after 10 years service. It's the same in all sports that I'm aware of. You can't arbitrarily delay a testimonial until some vague future date, and to do so would be to penalise outstanding young players who break into a side at a young age.

| I agree its an achievement 10 years service but at 26 I think he should be looking at concentrating on his own career not a big cash payday. If I was him I would want to get back playing well for the club and pushing to get back to the levels on a few years ago eg Great Britain/England and not looking at arranging events to raise money. My own opinion of course.

How many players do you think we can afford to pay off?
I am definitely questioning the reason about of both is those two.
One has been trying to manage a debilitating long term condition following a career threatening injury and the other has worries of his own, but in all honesty don't feel he has had that bad a season either in a team of non tryers, which is one thing you can never say about Yeamo because he is a 100%er.

I'm not convinced by the idea that Horne's poor form this season has been a result of lack of focus due to his testimonial, or even that it's had a significant influence TBH. There are many other more likely reasons - the combination of recovery from his injury and learning to manage his diabetes, playing behind a beaten pack in most games, the lack of a regular decent halfback partner - all more than enough to explain the way he's been playing IMO.

It has to be applied for the testimonial by the club and after 10 years service but doesnt have to be right on 10 years it can be any amount over 10. I just feel he should have bigger priorities at 26 then a testimonial.

He gets paid a good salary already and its his job. I wouldn't get paid by my boss a bonus after 10 years service when I was just doing my job.

I really don't understand that reasoning, what has his age got to do with when he received his testimonial?
As I have already stated and Kosh too, I am sure it has far more with managing his diabetes then anything else, it takes 2 to 3 years to manage it successfully and to add to that he is also a professional sportsmen adding extra pressure to managing it.

As harsh as I sound if his illness is affecting his game and therefore the team we cant be soft about it. He would no way be offered another deal on current form and I really do hope he can manage his diabetes and get back to the level of 2005 and 2006. If he can't then I feel we need to look for a new 6. Our pack has been beaten regularly this season but no one has stopped the abuse directed at Thorman and I feel Horne has been equally poor as Thorman this year.
With a good pack that we have assembled for next season and Long playing alongside him, there can be no excuses apart from shoddy tactics from the coach!!!

Just tell me what that has to do with a testimonial, when it is something recognised by the RFL after ten years service to one club, I don't see Richard Horne being any less deserving of it then Kingy was last year, or any other player who has received a testimonial in the last 30 years.
What criteria would you set for a testimonial then?

So if you'd worked for a company for X amount of years and [iwere[/i deserving of a reward would you turn it down?
Also what's to say the rules on this 10 year rule aren't going to change? There are many other things to consider such as; Tax changes, fan base lowering and his form etc etc.

No I wouldnt in honesty. But I would also want to concentrate on performing to the levels I had previosly set myself. No person can tell me that Horney performances this season have ever got near 2005 and 2006 level of performance.
I dont know if the 10 year ruling is going to change if that was the case then fair enough but I am not aware of this change. I know currently that it is tax free and knowing this current government that wont last much longer!
I am in admiration for his loyalty, passion etc for the club but just think players earn a very good salary throughout their careers when many of us me included would play free of charge for the club we love.
