He has Yorkshire ties. Certainly a bigger tie to us than to Salford. The only reason for him to go to Salford would be because he has strong ties to his bank account.

If he does leave us (and I think he will) then I hope he signs for the likes of Wigan over Salford. At least with Wigan he would be signing for a club with the chance of winning something. Salford are a long way from challenging and it would look like he followed the money.

Money over ambition.
I could see why wigan, leeeds and warrington., why would any player choose salford us and these and play in an empty stadium and not even getting in the play offs.

| If he goes anywhere but the NRL, he is an untrustworthy little toad!
I can fully appreciate his NRL ambitions that he's told us about for a couple of years but to turn full circle and go to another SL club would be disappointing to say the least. After having a number of disappointing seasons, why leave now that we are clearly a club on the up?
If he does leave, we have some quality cover and I'm not an advocate of having large chunks of salary cap stood on the wing but I would have expected some honesty and integrity from Tom.

| Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in English Rugby Union if he's failed to land anything in the NRL. The promise of playing for England on the big stage and all that? Oh and the money. The comment by the Wigan journo about it not being Wigan but someone close could suggest Sale as I alluded to before. Then again , who knows , he'll do what he wants and do whatever we need to do, just needs to be sorted so we can do that.

Regarding staying during the lean times - he's been under a long-term contract, so this is his first chance to leave on his own terms.
While there are positive indicators that Hull might well be on the up, the same could be said of Salford - Koukash has enough money that if he puts it where his mouth is, they could be right up there with the big boys in the not too distant. Wigan are already there.

I'd say that currently Hull have more chance of winning something than Salford do but it's possible Salford could be up there before too long. As things stand Salford would be a sideways step at best.

It'd be a surprise and they haven't been linked with him especially - but they are are very possibly going to be the big movers in this year's recruitment and I don't think people have appreciated their change in status. 12 months ago - 'maybe go for Jodie Broughton from l'il ol' Salford' was a decent shout, but I saw somebody suggest it the other day, which was a bit
The proof will be in the pudding, but if his vision for his club is compelling, who knows?

I know I keep saying this but trust me, Salford WILL be a force and it will be because Koolcash wants them to be. The ambition will be there IMO and I guess the cash will certainly help!
Still think Wigan myself

| Before I retired, nobody ever told me where I could or couldn't work. That was always my decision and I'm sure the same applies to Tom. He's seen out his contract with us, so owes us nothing. If he feels he can do better elsewhere, be it in Oz or with a SL club then that's his choice. Whatever he does I'll be grateful that he always did his best for us.
Good luck Tom.

I don't disagree, but I can't believe that Salford will be challenging for trophies in the next year or two. Maybe after that, but not as quickly.

| Even if he went to Salford for the money, so what? A professional RL player might get 10-12 years at the top of the game, and why shouldn't they try to earn as much money as possible during that time? It's just a job.

Raynor did that with his move to RU and I had no problem with that. If Tom wants to go to Salford up to him, I just can't see him getting success there.

Maybe trophies are less important to him than his bank balance. Nowt wrong with that. I reckon he has a good 5-7 years left in him anyway, so who's to say Salford won't win something in that time?

I was always under the impression that his desire to play in the NRL was to test himself in a better competition so you would think that a similar reasoning would apply to a potential move to another Super League team and that he would want to go to a better club than FC. That's not Salford. Maybe in a few years they'll be better but they certainly aren't right now.
Nothing wrong with him leaving for better money somewhere else but based on the impression I've had on this then I would be disappointed if that was the case.

| Looking at Wigan's squad, and their average halves in particular - I see no reason why we can't overtake them in the next 2 seasons, especially if Tomkins does go to the NRL as expected. I reckon it will be Wigan signing Tom, as a sweetner for when they lose Sam. When that happens, for the first time in ages they won't be able to punish us with high kicks to the corner, and I don't think Tom would relish Lineham charging at him time and time again!
As much as I hate talent leaving the club, we don't want mercenaries here - and it's not so hard to take when you see how much we're improving every week right now. If the reason he's had such a quiet season is because he's already signed for Wigan - that indicates what kind of mentality he has anyway. And it's too confusing having 2 wingers called Tom! Bon voyage!

If it is Salford, and they continue to sign players of Tom's calibre, who's to say they can't challenge next year? Granted, Briscoe by himself won't make the difference, but it would be a step in the right direction for them.

.... especially if he ignores the salary cap, which has been widely reported in the "press".
Quote Dr Koukash said: “I will spend over the cap as I’ll just recreate what other clubs have been doing.
"Hopefully I’ll be able to find jobs for the wives.
“People are doing it already, three or four clubs do it already so I’ll look at their inventive ways.
“Say I sign a player for £150,000 I’ll pay him £100,000 and his wife £50,000. Is that what the sport wants? Because if it is, that’s what we’ll do.
“It doesn’t interest me, just taking part. I need to win. '"

Well exactly..
He was an idiot to come out and say that. Won't happen though. He could sell the dream though, I would love to be part of transforming the worst team in the league to one of the best.
