as churchill says it happens at most matches, no one knows how badly someone is injured when they cheer, if after o'meeley's hit on netherton had left him injured, then would we be saying the same thing about the hull fans who were cheering!!!

I think most fans would cheer the hit that leaves an opposition player groggy, but the protocol is to stand and applaud the player being helped from the field. What happened in this instance?

I hope and wish Longy a speedy recovery. Top bloke and a great servant to rugby. Maybe Longy will realise that his body can't take the knocks anymore and retire. If he does I hope we get him signed onto the coaching staff, if he stays as a player then I hope he can develop our up and coming 7's into something only half as good as he's been.

Why the clamour to get Long on the coaching staff? IMO he doesn't appear to have the right sort of personality for it.

Nobody cheered the incident as it wasn't clear what had happened. The East stand started cheering as Long was rolling around in agony, which rose to a crescendo as he was led from the field.

I am. I freely admit to cheering when we put a big hit in and it leaves the player groggy. But I have never cheered in glee when an opposition player awaiting an ambulance has been helped from the field- I always stand and applaud. Don't try and defend the indefensible, Basil, it doesn't become you.

Absolute tosh. And as he walked off the field with the physio who would know in the East stand how injured he was? I was sat in the West stand and thought he had hurt his wrist.
If he had been stretchered off, then to cheer that would have been crass.

Nothing shocks me from the wrong side of this city. Cheering an injured player off is awful.

So only leg or back injuries are worthy of respect? Your attitude is disgusting. Can you produce a list of injuries, say, from a poke in the eye, down to a broken leg, and say which are OK to cheer and which warrant the polite applause of respect?

You know, some worrying things happened on that pitch today if you're a Hull fan, and I was all prepared to wax lyrical about them. But that display from the proud robins was the most shocking thing I've seen during the Super League era.

I said when you signed him, if you keep him fit he'll be great signing but if he carries on picking up injuries like he did in his last years at saints then it could be a shocking signing.
