The problem is that it isn't an occasional night out, it's more often than not, and they rarely only have a "few".
Having said that, if we were top of the table and scoring points for fun then nobody would care if they were drinking Vodka at half time!

| Quote ="Rock God X"I would agree that smoking isn't a good idea for professional athletes, but a couple of pints after the game won't do them any harm whatsoever. If they're drinking heavily in the 24-48 hours before a game, that's when it becomes unacceptable.'"
I'd agree with that, but also add that excessive alcohol consumption could also interfere with training if done at the wrong times.
I have no problem whatsoever with RL players having a drink, provided it has no effect on their fitness or ability to train and play on matchdays. I don't expect them to be monks, although I would hope that since their bodies are their sole source of income they would respect them enough to keep things sensible.
The problem appears to be that [isome[/i players, and a certain portion of our fan base, appear to be stuck in the 'good old days' prior to SL. It is no longer acceptable to go out on the lash regularly or be stubbing out your ciggy as you run onto the pitch. Some people need to wake up to this fact.

| In an ideal world they shouldn't drink at all during the season. In a professional world they certainly shouldn't be getting $hitfaced during the season. They should be allowed a couple of drinks after a game and then leave it IMO. If you cant handle going sustained periods without a drink you have a problem and those players make the choice to become a professional sportsman so should respect the limitations that come with it.

Difference is, the Leeds players deserve it.
I don't thik it's the drinking, so much as the "bollox to it, we got paid anyway" attitude that many perceive them to have.

| Nothing wrong with players having a good drink after the game. But once Monday is back up it should be an alcohol ban till after the next game and so on.
Now IF these players are going out on the lash 2 or 3 days before a game and they seem to be accused of going in the same bars week in week out, then why are the club allowing it to happen?
Surely it can be classed as misconduct? Can the club introduced a fining system where if a player is caught out X amount of days before a game having a skinful they would be fined x amount of pounds.
Would be very easy to introduce a breathalyser to each training session etc. As for the smoking, yeah it is a bad habit and not an ideal one for a sportsman but there are plenty out there who smoke all the way through their careers and it doesn;t seem to do them any harm.

| I will be amazed if Tickle doesn't leave for Wire
They have refused to either deny or confirm the deal, when he does go thats the full house as regards false information
Rule and kath telling us spent full cap, and now Agar telling us he isn't leaving
Maybe he wants the squad focused ready for the derby, and is worried all this speculation will turn them to drink leading up to the derby

They are MEAN TO BE PROFESSIONAL SPORTSMEN, the SHOULD NOT drink or smoke, at least during the season.'" when Kearney was at Hull he gave the academy lads a lecture on looking after thereselves and said they shouldnt be looking to go out on the beer more than once a month. Listening to Lee Crooks at a dinner the other month he said that you can tell the players who had a good session (more than just 6 pints) on a saturday after a game even as late as tuesday or wednesday in training - their bodies havent been able to recover from the game or the alcohol.
people need to realise these guys are meant to be athletes at their peak, pushing their bodys to the limits. its not like 10/15/20 years ago. in general you can't do both, fair enough some players manage a career at the top getting away with it, but some people are more natural athletes than others and some players have talent and a game that doesnt really on them being fully fit. just coz one player does it doesnt mean its ok for the rest, and it shouldnt be ok for the individual

| I was saddened to hear Agar say Tickle isnt meant to be leaving. He had a very good first season but has been very average since. A back row of Burnett, Fitzgibbon and Washbrook with the likes of Manu, Whiting and Lee to come in would suffice and give us a much better balance imo.
Also with the drinking, I dont think its bad if players go for a drink or two after a game. But getting bladdered anytime during the season, unless after a cup win or something, is very unprofessional. The likes of Tickle, Thackray and Berrigan can often be found wrecked round Bev Rd/Cott Rd/Newland Ave area apparently
