| Quote ="Kosh"How about the one-on-one try-saver against Richard Moore a year or two ago?
I don't think it's a question of technique as such, but I agree about aggression. And also confidence. Yeaman is convinced he's going to stop people, Hall isn't. That makes a difference.
Yeaman is a better defender, no argument. Just not quite as good as some people think IMO.'"
Am I deliberatly just not remembering these tackles? Was it an actual "dominant" tackle? A try-saver isn't always dominant.

He was the last defender and wrapped Moore up ball and all. I remember it clearly because of the rarity/shock value.

| Quote ="Robbo4"icon_confused.gif 18 months? Hardly. The fact is Hall hasn't improved since he came into the team and is making the same mistakes and errors. I dont think he has ever been first choice for a position has he? So when he does make those mistakes and errors its obvious he will get dropped especially as we have other options in those positions. I'm not sure its a vendetta by Agar as such but perhaps he just doesn't beleive Hall is currently worth the gamble to be in the team when we are playing the style of rugby we are (attempting to be conservative and error free) which maybe down to the squad Agar has available to him?'"
That's how I see it. I would love to see Hall make it and have said so since he came on the scene but he has to show improvement and this season that has been missing, notwithstanding he has been played out of position because of team requirements. He may be a player who needs an arm round him but when he goes on the pitch he should be able to perform the basics under pressure at a level required by a Super League player.

| Some players are brilliant but erratic. Others rarely make mistakes but never do anything spectacular. It is all about whether the positives outweigh the negatives. Hull are not currently carrying too many flakey geniuses are they? In one respect this is a good thing, but it does make you a bit predictable in attack. When we play you my main fear is that you will grind us down or capitalize on errors. That you will produce something out of nothing, usually seems a relatively remote possibility. I think Hall, while not yet a well-rounded player himself could help you to be a more well-rounded team. Running in a few tries at Widnes should help boost his confidence at least.

Difficult one, im of the opinion that if he had been nurtured and supported by his manager better it would have had a positive impact on his confidence and thus his form.
I know for a fact if i hadnt have had managers who believed in me for my career i wouldnt have developed to the roles i have.

Hence my comment about Agar.
Berrigan stood up and fought Houghtons corner when we were contemplating sending him on loan, I wonder if any senior players have Hall's back in a similar way.
Hall is too good a prospect to just give up on, had he been able to learn from a TOP centre it would be a much different story I feel. Imagine if he'd had Barnett (Snr) as a role model.

The frustrating thing is its not rocket science. Even without the mentor like Barnett if Agar said to him 'Craig, your playing right centre for the remainder of the season, youre not going to be dropped, play your natural game and we'll see were it gets us, IVE got faith in you to do the job'
Hally would be a different player overnight!

Exactly...........he is only player in our team when he gets the ball you sit up...the coaches dont like him for some reason, anything goes wrong and he gets the blame.....nearly every player has deserved dropping this season but Agar and his bald useless sidekick havent got the Bolloxs to do it.

Are you saying Hall continues to run into touch or tries a miracle off-load when its not on because Agar isn't his best mate? Why is Hall so immune to criticism here? He is a confident lad anyway but his error count is far too high for a team playing a conservative style of rugby (whether you agree with the style of rugby is a different matter). Without knowing exactly what gets said in training I can only assume Hall hasn't done whats been asked of him.

Other players have been dropped when we have someone who can come in and replace them. This persecution complex for Hall is just getting silly now.

Im not saying he isnt worthy of any critiscism. Im simply saying that a player like Hall needs to be playing first team to develop and needs to be believed in by his coach to support him. The best rugby players in the world that are the most creative make mistakes as youngsters and learn from them.
With regards to running into touch, i think he made the right attacking move to try and beat the man on the outside and back his pace, i also think his offloads are well intended if we had any support with him etc. Theres a time and a place but it will only come with playing.

Agree 100%, the problem isn't Hall, it's the clueless bafoon on the sidelines playing a percentage rugby game all the flaming time.

That's Craig Hall's biggest problem, he is still maing the same mistakes as he was when he first came into the side. He is showing little sign of improvement and maybe he does not give the coaches the impression that he is willing to work hard t learn and improve? Maybe that is why the coaches have lost faith with him?
The thing is we can all say put an arm round him etc but we don't know what has been done or said by RA, JS or CH and as such are mainly guessing.

Depends, when he came in the team his defence was woeful. He has really developed that area and looks 100% better. Is that not an improvement? Maybe they had limited time to work with him and went for the % development of sorting his defence out?
He's still only 19 or 20 isnt he?

Thats why he is going out on loan. We, as a team, are currently not strong enough to carry a player like Hall (at this stage in his development). That's not Hall's fault but its also not some sort of persecution by Agar either IMO. I fully believe he is doing what he thinks is best for the team first.

Kris Welham is a classic example of how a player improves when a coach persists with him in his best position. Also wasn't the idea behind no relegation partly so clubs would bring young players through and allow them development time??

You dont think Hall having a loose carry or dropping the ball or bottling a high bomb or missing tackles is his own fault? Really?
