There's a difference between the mosh pit at a gig and a stand full of families at a rugby league game.

| Quote ="ComeOnYouUll"It's not just the violence it's the increasing propensity of people chucking beer in the air in celebration.
The BBC were pretty much encouraging this during the FIFA World Cup last year by showing it happening at fans parks around England and even saying which was the 'best' celebration.
I know most people behave and that stopping everyone enjoying a couple of pints whilst watching the game is punishing innocent people but it's worth it to stop trouble and maybe stop families drifting away from the sport.'"
I agree. The reality is that most clubs have sections of supporters who cross a behavioural line. Clubs have no interest in dealing with them - attendances are compromised as it is and they want the bar turnover, and the RFL don't want a light shining our hooliganism issue. I suspect what we will get is a couple of Wire fans being "banned for life" (not enforceable), a comment from both clubs trying to deflect from the issue by talking about the majority of well behaved fans, and a £20k fine for Warrington's owner who is worth £157m.
The unintended consequence of this continuing as you say is that families are put off. We have a real opportunity here as a sport to take a moment of self reflection and launch a positive, take a stand initiative, being transparent about the issue and encouraging fans to call out what's unacceptable and galvanise around a family theme. With the ladies game taking off and reserves back next year this could be a good time to reinvigorate the "club" mentality and differentiate ourselves positively from other sports. It won't happen, but something needs to change or Wembley could get messy.

| The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. " Burke" I believe.
Not many are prepared to stand, and deliver the wrong doers to their fate.
Most, can be trusted to attend and behave.
Just because the few can't behave, doesn't mean the many should suffer.
Get tough with the few.

So because you cant have a pint in your hand for 90 minutes you suffer.Hardly suffering.
Its pathetic that supporters cant go to a game without having beer.
Its been the same for years alcohol fuels violence. The Wembley final, the grand final and magic weekend there are always pockets of alcohol fuelled violence at these events.
We have seen the R/L clubs get tough policies and they do nothing.
The main problem is alcohol and if the R/L dont sort it out then we have to wait until someone is seriously injured or killed before the Government acts to ban alcohol at sports grounds.

No I don't suffer, and quite often I don't drink at games. But, just because some, not many really, can't handle it, doesn't mean it should be banned.
As I said, get tough,

| Someone on Twitter pointed out that much of the discussion surrounding possible venues for Magic weekend related to which stadium had the best/largest number of pubs in the vicinity which kind of sums up the problem we have.

| So banning drinking in the grounds is going to prevent people been intoxicated during the games. Think people need a reality check. It won’t make a difference, you’d still get the small number of incidents regardless. People are just making excuses for bell ends who can’t behave themselves

| Surely alcohol fuelled violence, however significant, is only a part of the dynamic? It's the sense of entitlement elements of our fans hold in that they believe it's ok ( drunk or not) to act oafishly.Dont Know if it's a northern territorial RL thing but doesn't appear to happen in RU ( could have separate debate on that one!)
I'm no angel but language is at times cringeworthy but seems magnified on trips to London/Perpignan and not confined to youngsters.

What is also quite marked is that a lot of the time, the oafish behaviour is carried out by people old enough to know better!

And yet they do not serve alcohol on the tube.
Lets ban pies, pasties and confectionery too.
If you can't go for 80 minutes without a pie then maybe you need to shed a few pounds eh?

My point was that for the idiots who go in mosh pits and sling £’s worth of beer onto unsuspecting people are probably the same idiots who do it at Rugby games. I was stood behind a “family” at Leeds recently and their adolescent sons were peeling labels of lager bottles and trying to through them into other peoples drinks. Not under the influence, just sodding annoying and their parents were laughing like I said, I blame Thatcher.

It's never gone away in football. Just not been as well publicised.
Massive Police presence outside premier league games has just moved it to different areas of the Towns and Cities.
We all, as supporters of the game, have a duty to stand up and be counted.
When someone throws a glass or bottle, or anything else. When someone uses racist/abusive language, we should be pointing it/them out to the stewards.
I don't believe it when I hear things like, no one saw it or heard it. In this day and age it is nigh on impossible to do anything, without someone have caught it on camera.

| Get tough on the idiots that can't handle their drink.
Identify. Name. Shame.
Get their faces in the local rag and on social media.
Get them banned from all grounds for 2 years.
Work in conjunction with the police, so if the police are given evidence of them entering a ground in that period, they can be prosecuted.
Public shaming will affect their work lives. They'll think twice.
As for banning alcohol - it would kill a lot of income and not tackle the issue completely.
A no drink zone family area would be nice, with strict rules about behaviour. The ground is big enough. Get some bouncy castles on the concourse behind the North Stand but block off access to the seating area. Encourage families to go on that area away from those that aren't quite as family friendly.
Develop a culture.

What's really disappointed me is the lack of statement from the club after the Semi Final. I know who one of the idiots was who threw a pint yet there has been no way or method of reporting them. It's as though the club didn't care about the incident at all.

This is very poor from the club.
It seems that at least one individual, who could be used to set an example to others, is being allowed to get away with it, and that certainly doesn't send out the right message to these idiots.

Without being funny but if you know who one of the individuals is then why not just either ring the club or email the club? Why do you need the club to tell you how to report it?
Simply calling the club or emailing them is already something that you can do so there is a way/method.

I get the feeling the RL clubs don't want to tackle the issue, I know for a fact that a lad who threw a bottle on the pitch towards Tommy Makinson at our home game against saints, he was pointed out and ejected. He got a ban, which amounted to a warning and banned for 2 weeks when we didn't have a game and told if he does it again he'll be banned. You do wonder what the point is.
Saying that the wire fans are doing what a lot of every teams fans are do, blaming everyone but themselves for the scenes on Saturday, football fans, the Ref, the oppo fans, Kenny Edwards!!!
I'm not sure what the answer is but I pick and choose away games nowadays purely because I got sick of idiots so drunk they wont remember the game just being annoying and making it an uncomfortable experience.
