. Just thinking about how he has influenced things since his arrival e.g.:

- in training (I am told), not letting players move onto new drills until the last one is perfect
- putting in extra time to advise the younger players
- leading the way in the gym


Also, is it a coincidence that there was an anonymous players' charitable effort over Christmas? Add to that his indisputable experience at the highest level in this role and the =#0000BFrespect both past team mates and opposition players have for him. Directionless rant over...

I don't give a toss, he'll do as he is told, as any employee should.

Radders is one of the most professional players in SL and will accept whatever decision is made. FWIW Radford does do the charitible local work etc and spend time with the younger players to give them advice etc which has been highlighted as a good thing that Fitz brings.

I still find it really funny that Radders has been named at 13 but playing as a 3rd prop for the last year or so and gets the stick that he does. The stick for his performances as well as FC having 2 really poor years have suddenly made him the worst captain and worst player in FCs history. I think context needs to be put around the job that Radders has done, both on and off the pitch.

I like Radford and, as you do, think he has come in for some unfair flakk. However, I believe, from what I have seen since he has been captain, we have had a lack of motivational leadership on the park - sometimes, quietly leading by example is not enough. I believe Fitz is not only the best man available to us but that he is one of the best leaders on an RL pitch in the world: I don't believe Radders is rubbish just that Fitz is better.

I agree entirely. I do also think that from a motivational leader on the pitch perspective it shouldnt just be the captain that does this, where have all the other senior players been that are meant to lead by example? Since Cooke, Kearney and Swain went we've not really had that big presence imo.

The squad has previously been described as 'quiet' which I think backs up what you say. Even Swain was a (superb) lead by example man. We have lacked characters and organisers, let's hope this year's recruitment has addressed that.

I'd be surprised at Long being made captain. He says in his book that he likes leading the team on the pitch and lifting trophies but doesn't enjoy the off field activities involved in captaincy. Perhaps Fitzgibbon or Radford will be "club captain" and Long "team captain".

yeah i thought sean long should be kept away from captaincy and we should opt for a 'squeaky clean' front-man such as fitzgibbon... especially when you read about how sean long can't remain sober for more than 2 hours

but to be fair the book implies he has grown out of being a dick head and he's more sensible these days...

Hopefully his 20 pints of Guinness a night are over.

TBF, ive only ever met 1 person that could drink that amount of Guinness in a night and Sean Long doesnt look like the kind that could. (ive tried believe me and i can get nowhere near 20 pints of Guinness)
