| Just read on the Cas rumours thread Liam Watts is talking to clubs, hopefully were in for him.
Some coaches, especially in the NRL, don't like spending big money on props. Prefering to spend the bigger money in key positions.
The diffrence between O'meley and Pitts in playing ability may not be reflected in thier pay.

| Until our recruitment is finalised it's hard to comment on the make up of the squad. If he is a direct replacement for O'Meley or Moa then it does weaken us but lets see how everything pans out first. If one of those stays then he has becomes one fo 5 props which I am happy with.
Lynch, Ogre/Moa/New, O'Carroll, Pitts, Bowden.
On Watts there have been a few rumblings about him possibly coming to us but with Pitts signing I would say it's less likely.

If we could get Watts it would give us some extra room in the cap and some size in the front row, something I think we lack.
I'm really interested to see how Green plays tonight he could give us some height there.

Serious question here, what use is height in an RL forward?

| And depending upon technique and bulk can also help to go 'over the top' in the tackle more and find the front quickly.

| He can slam dunk. Seriously I don't think because someone is taller makes them able to sling out an offload better than some who is slightly smaller. More to do with strength, power and technique.

I would think you will have a fair bit of him, playing against yourselves, on SKY. Not the signing I think many of you guys was hoping for.

| To be honest, I think that all of those attributes are more to do with technique, strength and general ability. I cannot think of any reason why height would be something to consider when signing a forward, especially a prop forward.
I remember Sharp saying something similar about Cusack, enough said.

It's alot harder to 'wrap up' a taller bloke, making the chances for an offload are higher (obviously they need the skill and vision too).
The point of impact is also higher too, meaning they are more likely to go over the top and land on their fronts, allowing a quick ptb (they need the strength for this too).
I don't think it would necessarily be something the coaching staff looked for when making signing a prop, but it definately adds an extra element to the side. Shorter blokes have their attributes too.

| For a slimmer player greeny is a powerful forward, and i know its a different class in SL then u20's, but greeny has been performing very well.

| He's a good lad and will always give 100% but I highly doubt he'll be more than average at prop or 2nd row.

He's a slimmer player, but part of that is due to his height. He's very tall, and so he still carries the weight of a prop forward despite looking slimmer.

Can`t see much of a problem t.b.h. Bomber and P.G. must have had their eye on him.I trust their judgement.

Well Leeds are interested in re-signing him but we did and they didn't charge a fee? Also Hull thanked Leeds for letting them talk to Pitts (not normal dialouge between the 2 clubs) ?
Dont misunderstand I'm not unhappy with the signing just seems strange to me!!

Despite this competition for places against more experianced players, Pitts has featured in over half of the regular season games for Leeds over the last 3 years.
Is Pitts the same as O'Meley or Moa? Not yet. Its rumoured that one or both of Moa and O'Meley may not be here next season, so this could be seen as good succession planning by having Pitts learning from O'Meley and Lynch, getting to grips with set plays in advance of next season.
As has been mentioned, he could be the next Carvell.'"
It's a realistic view. If we are to replace either a former SOO and australian international or our best impact prop with someone who is relatively inexperienced and who has primarilly been seen as a back rower then it will inevitibly weaken us. It's only good succession planning if he turns out to be of decent quality. If he doesn't then it's poor succession planning.
As you say, he could be the next gareth carvell, but then again, richard agar could have been the next wayne bennett
