This annoys me about the whole Hall thing, he's been first team for 4 years now.

so what he is STILL LEARNING HIS TRADE, some of the so called expereinced players make cock ups and dont get half as much slating as Hally does.

I watched the game again today i dont think he was at fault.

4 years is more than enough time IMO. He's not improved enough defensively.

There are 2 parts to defending for me.

1. Actually making the tackle. Hall appears to be more comfortable on the left hand side and looks more and more solid. Still makes some 'wafting arms' attempts but in general getting better.
2. Reading the play and making the right call. He is incredibly weak in this area and hasnt shown an improvement. He does need to stop going for the intercepts and stop ball watching too.

I believe that last year both aspects were weak and he's done a hell of a lot of work on point 1. Maybe now he will focus a little on the mental aspect of defence in point 2.

Dont think manning up is the problem. His mental reading of the game and his ability to watch his runner and not the ball carrier is the issue.

That's bollox. He's never going to be the best defender in the world but technique can be improved massively which is hall's issue rather than lack of bottle.

He epitomises pretty much every young player at Hull since mcrae left. A succession of below average coaches have failed to fulfil teh promise any of our young players have shown

Yes, would have realised the potential that saw him get SL Young POTY in 2005. And, apparently, NL Young POTY 2003.

The same could be said of Richard Agar. He is young and inexperienced in coaching terms in the Super League yet he gets a weekly bashing on this board from most people

The confidence bashing he's had would leave most young players rocking in a corner.
Personally I hope Agar drives him out because I would love to see him alongside Welham at Rovers in the centres. Give them 2 seasons together and Morgan could have a fantastic centre pairing, pace is there just need some positional and tackling technics which comes with experience together and good coaching.

Thinking quotas. Websters wages plus others could allow a full british backline of Briscoe, colbon, welham, hall and fox plus bringing in Finch to link up with Dobson.

Welham's defence is one of the worst within SL.

He's scored 6 tries in 9 games. That's second only to Briscoe's 7 in 10, and one more than Yeaman's 5 in 11. That still makes him our top try-per-game player, even in a season where he's mainly played out of position.

The fact that this seems to have escaped you leads me to believe that you aren't actually watching Hall at all.

I dont disagree but he apparently jumps out the line intentionaly to try and disrupt the flow of attack. He has also scored 7 tries in his last 5 games so go figure.
