dont think so
Had the chance to shine having a class half like Clifford playing with him but he didnt and it was evident then that the pace he had at Castleford was lost since his first serious injury there.
Never runs the ball now and personally dont think he will improve whoever is around him.
He has been another signing that has been a huge disappointment particularly if he is a Marquee player.
I agree injury has not helped him but we cant go on week after week blaming his injuries for underperforming

I agree. Griffin and Watkins have done it successfully and I can't see why he can't do it. I'd only keep him if he's off quota though and if he stays fit until the end of the season which is a big ask as far as Carlos is concerned.

| We are where we are. Brakes have been put on our terrible performances and Grix must deserve soon praise. .It's plainly obvious that this team especially when you take in the injured are about where we should be. Young kids coming through. 6 youngsters in the squad today . 2 players coming back from massive injuries.Couple of loan signings A right mix. We have no real size in the pack apart from Ese and Sao. But the lads out there are absolutely giving 100% yet some still whine and moan. How about for once just get behind your team.

There is no whining and moaning about the teams effort today i can see on the forum.
The disappointment is understandable and a bit of a discussion whether Briscoe being carded was the correct decision or is Trueman ever going to get better, other than that the whining and moaning is just in your head

Watkins was already a good line runner and to a degree so was Griffin although I dont accept he has made the transition. Carlos isnt a great line runner and his biggest strengths are his defence and running out the back field.
He hasnt the skill set to move to the back row and we dont need another experiment either.

Hes being injured for the most part, serious injuries and had no pre season for 3 years. Given he has to have several half back partners, constant changing in SR and centre positions I think that plays a bigger part.
A settled side with better players he will be better, thats not to say he will be world class though.

Thank you for being rational. The guy has had it tough. We have turned a corner now and folk still finding fault. We are no world beaters but we’re doing ok after an atrocious start to the season well done Grix etc

| INOUTAgree with what everyone is saying tonight. The effort is certainly there, can't fault the players attitude and commitment in recent weeks, especially when compared to the nightmare opening three months of the season, some of the goal-line defence was excellent, almost heroic at times, so plaudits to all on that score. Thought the Briscoe sin-binning was a little harsh, but that's the way the game is now, and in the end it was probably the decisive moment in the deciding the outcome.
The unfortunate aspect is that we are a low-quality side, in truth a bottom-three team, and we simply do not have the standard of players to tip these narrow defeats into victories. That is a consequence of our recruitment decisions over recent years which is an ongoing situation which will take time to address.
I don't like watching us lose, I never have, it becomes depressing for all of us when we are on a run like this, but sometimes you have pick out the positives where you can find them and build on them to move forward, and hopefully we can slowly continue to improve over the next few (tough!!!) games.
I'm a good deal more positive and hopeful than I was in February/March/April when I had genuine fears that the club was about to fall through a trapdoor. I am certainly a good deal more hopeful about our chances for a victory next Saturday than I was before Good Friday (when I was fearing a massacre!). If we can replicate the effort of recent weeks and the crowd become involved and we get the bounce of the ball at the right time then it's not beyond us to pinch a derby upset win. Think the pressure is on rovers after their defeat yesterday and hopefully we can turn that to our advantage. Either way, I'm now hopefully that we have reached the bottom of the curve and we are once more moving in an upwards direction.
Keep the faith everyone.

| We now have players who have some desire and effort. a few smart signings by Myler and we have gone from getting beat by 40 points against Leigh and Hudds to been one play away from beating decent teams who are in the play offs.

| Moy is definitely improving in attack. At first I thought he was just speed and evasion, but he’s shown better passing with two assists in two weeks. Still, today involved in two obstruction penalties - his timing and awareness is off, but this experience will do him the world of good. His break in the first was brilliant.
Agreed Carlos looks good again. Would definitely consider keeping him if he’s off quota.
Reynolds made a few mistakes, but still did way more than Trueman. Took his try well and was busy. Agree Trueman needs to up his game.
9 of the 17 from our academy (counting Briscoe and Balmforth), 3 of them teenagers, and only 3 quota players. Taking 5th in the league all the way, away from home.

A good line runner is not the criteria for a second row although it does obviously help
Lane is a good line runner but hardly a quality second row
To say Griffin has not made the transition into second row is ludicrous.
I was a major critic of Griffin as a centre and one of the first to advocate he moved into the second row.
Once he increased his fitness and workrate he became a very good second row for the club and it was only his brain farts and possible attitude to a previous coach that saw him leave the club.
He is a regular in the Wakefield team playing second row and scored again today.
Maybe you will change your mind when you see him next season playing for Wakefield against us in S/L

I noticed that. Going forward Staveley, Martin, Moy, Balmforth and Charles all look capable of making the grade and there are others not far away as well. We've witnessed a shambles on the field for the last few seasons but we are producing quality through our youth set up and that makes me feel optimistic about the future. Need to be patient with these kids though.

Could Martin have gone nearer the posts with his try ??
The tv doesn’t show how close the other defender was but also Martin looked like it was the corner and nothing else

| Effort is there, we just lack some quality. Moy is getting better every game
I think you'll struggle to see a softer yellow card all season than the Briscoe one.
On the Reynolds miss kick for Lanes try, he looked to have taken a knock the play before. Mightve been better for Sutcliffe to take the kick

| I have been quite critical of Grix for some of his comments in recent weeks, however one thing that can't be taken away from him is that he has got this young group fired up and competitive again. I thought we were really unlucky to lose yesterday, going down to 12 for such a soft offence is incredibly frustrating and was ultimately where Salford racked up most of their points.
What is pleasing to see is the likes of Moy, Martin, Balmorth and to an extent Gardiner not looking out of place in Super League and getting better with each game. I also thought Kirby made a good account for himself on debut.

I can half understand Briscoe's obstruction being given for a (soft) penalty, given how the modern game is officiated, but as you say, the subsequent sin-binning was on the soft side of softer!!! It was then further compounded by Salford scoring two of their three tries while we were a man down, which ultimately was the deciding factor in the game's outcome.
The whole afternoon felt like our season in a nutshell. The element of luck appears to have deserted us, and even when it does go our way, we always seem to contrive a way to shoot ourselves in the foot!! At least we are now in games for the full eighty minutes as opposed to the hammerings from earlier in the year, so let's be thankful for that at least!

| We always hear how these things even out over the year. Off the top of my head I can think of 2 very questionable cards - Nu Brown & Briscoe yesterday. When exactly does it even out? I can’t remember any such decisions going our way so far.

| It’s been a problem posting on the site, don’t know if it’s me, but really annoying trying to type.
I went to the Salford game, it was nice to see Sneyd being presented with his black and white shirt by Adam, the little half is a mercurial talent, and despite his age was the ultimate reason for our hard earned defeat.
I was talking to two chaps from Salford who were very disappointed we had managed to sign Amir Borough, I said I didn’t know much about him, and if he was that good why isn’t he playing, instead of the loan deal to Barrow.
They said he was on the bench, so obviously took an interest in his performance, although not on for very long, he made a couple of dynamic breaks, looked very fast and powerful, all in all with a small snapshot of him, he looked very promising.
A different style to Deneve, but hopefully we have a couple of good hookers here, backed up of course with availability of Cade Cust, in this department we have surely strengthened, as Danny heads for a well deserved sabbatical.
