| Quote ="WormInHand"These fixtures were prepared AFTER the international debacle, at that time dispensations were been submitted to accommodate anomalies. The JJB fixture won't have existed, neither would the City home games.'"
I think the England v Australia game was always going to the JJB. The RFL would have had ideas on where they wanted certain games playing and as it's a big fixture only us or the JJB would've been big enough to hold it.
Quote ="WormInHand"Also four away fixtures in two months sounds about right to me - can't see the problem there - surely that's the norm? With a little planning, which was what the RL were trying to get Duffen to commit to attempting for them, we could all have been happy.'"
But it's not just the planning of City's fixtures, it's the planning of the whole league which must be a nightmare to co-ordinate. There are teams within the league that are unable to play at home on the same day due to distance and crowd control along with many other factors.
One date was given by the RFL, that was the issue not Duffen.

Heard an article about the premiership planning just before the season started, as you say they have to take into account police, travelling, gaps in games, not being home or away more than 2 consecutive games and a whole load of other considerations. IIRC the guy being interviewed said it goes through something like 15-20 iterations and takes months to complete.

Add to that the 2 Manchester, Liverpool and nearby London teams being unable to play at home on the same day and you have a nightmare situation.
But don't forget, this was all Duffen's doing the nasty, nasty man!!!

People need to start getting behind their city, drop their cynicism and start to believe that we can compete with the best. We have made huge strides forward as a city, yes there is still a lot to do but we are coming from a position that is further back than most and this will take time. Change is happening and our BID reflects the aims and vision of an ambitious city. Or maybe you would prefer things to keep how they where?'"
Dont disagree with anything you say here - but dont do it to the detriment of approx 13000 Rugby League Fans by any suggestion that we will not be able to play on our ground during the summer of 2018. I would also point out that the majority of those Hull fans are as keen as you are to host a Football World Cup.
Just as a note to you England played Australia at cricket at Headingly this summer and I dont recall their being a problem with our friends the Rhinos fixtures - things can be sorted without people falling out. Rugby League may not cut it with you football fans but there are a lot of us out there.

| Glad to see some fans can see the woods for the trees. Losing the game was because of the RFL's not approaching things properly.
As for games being played, don't forget that the police have the final say on these things. Seeing as last weekend they wanted a dinnertime kick-off for 8,000 fans at Suncthorpe to prevent fans drinking, yet on Tuesday Man Utd and Man city both plaued at the same time at night when fans could ahve been drinking all day and coped with about 80,000 of them I wouldn't rely on anything being arranged without some fuss.
And it isn't OUR ground. It isn't City's. It is the council's. And if they think world cup matches and all the benefits it will bring to the city in terms of investment and publicity are more important than a couple of rugby league games then it is just tough luck.

| I am hearing about changes within Hull City happening, maybe as early as next week. I doubt any of the local rags/radios will report much until after the event due to City having a good control over what they report.
Perhaps this time next week Mr Duffen & co will be a memory, we shall see

Given the bleating from some corners, I imagine they have lobbied the relevant Councillors and MP's, or have they just come on here spouting off unsubstantiated drivel because it's City?

We do have certain rights under the terms of our tenancy. And I imagine that elected representatives will be reasonably keen not to hack off 13,000 voters. These two factors combined would, I hope, ensure that an accommodation is reached rather than anything imposed by diktat.

| Which leads to another point.
The SMC was capitalised at £2 million when it was formed, 100% went to Pearson (& co)
Should Hull FC, City and the Council have a shareholding? this would give all parties a say, and if the ownership was opened up it would put some transparacy in the proces. Rather like our club would if we had a share issue.....
I know that The Galpharm is actually owned by the 2 clubs there and the council.
They dont have many problems (yes i know no Prem League and a crap name)

As has been said before, FC were offered a share holding, we didn't take it up, it isn't in the Councils interest to be shareholders as they dont want any operational involvement.

| Copy of email I received from Carl Minns (he of swine flu fame)
[iThank you for your letter regarding the KC Stadium and rugby internationals. [/i
T[ihe Council were only made aware of the problems regarding international matches at a very late stage by the Rugby Football League. At this time the Council did try to broker a deal to enable international rugby to be played at the KC Stadium this year. Unfortunately we ran out of time before any agreement could be reached.
With regard to the 50 year lease, which was signed in 2001, it is a legal agreement and there is little, in law that the council can do to alter it. Please be assured that although the previous two organisations that have had the lease on the stadium were involved with Hull AFC, this will not always be the case.
I have spoken to Paul Duffen regarding to the use of the Community Stadium and he is aware of how upset fans are. Rest assured that the Council and the Rugby Football League will work together to bring international rugby to the stadium in the future.
Yours sincerely.
Carl Minns[/i

Exactly how much 'transparency' was there the last time we had a share issue? Only as a former shareholder I don't recall there being that much TBH.
And as Standee pointed out, we were offered a spot on the SMC but turned it down. A mistake IMO.

Understand all of this, but at the end of the day Duffen just did not appear to have tried hard enough.
If he could be seen to have made the effort, people would not have minded so much. For the Council Leader to say that they were brought in too late to influence the negotiations indicates to me that solutions could indeed have been found with the right determination.
But don't forget, in his own words, Duffen's decision is final and, frighteningly, there is no complaints procedure.
