Pal was in his golf group for washy testimonial day and he said then he just wanted to get through this yr and smash pre season for next yr

Plenty of games he had an impact. A few games he was 1 of our best forwards. That's without an off season
He'd be usefull to have around the squad and use on occasions and when in need. But this is Gaz Ellis so I'd never rule him out making a position his on weekly basis

I'd hazard a guess it's because in his career he's started 11 games at Prop and 10 games in the 2nd row. And he's played at prop from the bench far more times than he has at 2nd row. It's quite reasonable to list him as an option for either position.

Our main focus has to be getting and keeping him fit (as in "our", I mean him and the club), I am still a bit sceptical because of his injury record, I'll be delighted when my concerns are proven unfounded.

Ellis will only be used sparingly so it’s a no brainer having him in and around the squad.

Do you really believe that? Radford knows hes had a bad season or two and will play safe and Ellis will feature in the 17 a lot i reckon at the expense of energy from a new recruit. I know im just guessing but i cant seem him signing to be bit part or in the reserves. Ellis will play a lot and we'll have a weaker 13 or bench for it despite having a very strong squad for next season - he simply isnt needed now and it was time to move on imo

His main influence next year will be off the field. Having him on the training field most days, and occasionally used in games, will only be a good thing.
Can’t underestimate what an influence he is on the rest of the squad.

Joe Cator was great for us for most of the season, towards the end not so. Good luck to him, not sure if he's ready for a place in your starting line-up, and doesn't have an obvious position. But he does punch far above his size/weight.

Thought the same until I realised we were running a reserve team next year and then retaining him made more sense.

Completely aside but season related is an interesting clip from 1902 of a Hull v Rovers friendly match at the Boulevard shown on the Old Hull site on Facebook. Played with 15 aside it is remarkably good photography of the ground back then. I first went there in 1945.

Yes, of course it is. But when did any coach ever make a good decision without the benefit of your perfect 20-20 hindsight?

What will happen here is, as usual, when the new season draws closer you'll big up your new acquisitions (you even did it with Matty Dawson) and make rash predictions about how you are going to do this and that and get all bolshie about the year ahead predicting big things for your side.

Then when the new season gets underway and you hit your first patch of poor form (probably very early on) Radfords signings will be questioned and be used to promote his dismissal. Posts like 'he can't dine out on those two Challenge Cup wins forever' will resurface on here.

There's absolutely nothing to suggest Hull FC are going to remotely compete with the big guns of Super League next season. Upper mid-table and a cup run. (at best)

I think our recruitment next year has been very good, but I just can't get excited about it with Radford still in charge. On paper Saints and Wigan are the two stand outs, but we are as good as anyone after that. But with Radford in charge I just can't see us doing any better than 6th or 7th. Because of the recruitment and the fact that we are making additions to the coaching team I am prepared to give it a chance and see what happens. But I expect to be saying the same things at the end of next season that I said at the end of this.
