| Quote ="Rock God X"=#0040FFIt's very rare in professional sport these days for players to be brought into clubs without something getting into the press beforehand. And, as I alluded to before, I think AP et al were keen to demonstrate that they had recognised the weaknesses in the squad and were attempting to rectify them. Had they been more discrete about their search for a halfback, you could bet your life that there'd have been plenty of fans complaining about it.
So they're faced with a choice of trying to search very quietly for a new HB (which would have been difficult anyway) and risking upsetting fans, or searching very openly and upsetting the player they were trying to replace.'"
That's a bit different to putting it there yourself. That's just massively disrespectful IMO.
For comparison, it's like the step up from cheating on your wife to shagging another bird in front of her whilst she's trying to watch Eastenders.

As I pointed out earlier, they probably wanted to be seen to have identified the weaknesses in the squad and to be making the effort to address those issues. Let's not forget that they didn't sign Seymour - he was a parting 'gift' from Agar and Kath.
It's inevitable that a player won't be too happy at being replaced, but that's not a reason not to replace him.

I just don't subscribe to that theory. Even when you said about the cost of lost sales if they weren't seen to be doing something, that only works if they got someone. I know they tried and I'm not for one minute blaming the club for not pulling it off, but failing loudly will have cost them at least as much as either outcome quietly, so IMO they will have gained nothing by hanging out their dirty linen and pretty much telling everyone that Seymour did it.

I don't think anyone needed telling.
That aside, I believe that perceptions are very important to many fans. That the problem was identified and (unsuccessful) attempts made to rectify it would be more likely to satisfy fans than the notion that everyone at the club was happy to continue with Seymour in the halves. All in my opinion, of course.

| Seymour was given an initial chance against Leeds and in pre season but didn't take it. So it's not like we haven't seen him at all this year and he has been totally frozen out by PG. Very strange how he wasn't picked last night though although I genuinely think that Gentle believed Heremaia was the better option on football alone. I don't necessarily agree with that but then I don't attend training.

This is the crux of where I think your point falls down. Any sensible fan should realise that the club will be bright enough to spot the problem and try to fix it. If they really need to be spoon fed it to be happy with the club then I think there's a good chance that the same people are also the sort to throw a paddy when we didn't get what we were after, so I still don't see where we'd gain.
You're also missing a rather simple solution. All the club had to say was they would be looking to strengthen the halves in general terms and that they would be bringing someone in. What they didn't need to do was get into specifics and declare that both halves would be replaced. If they'd done the former the fans know that the club are looking to do something about it, and the halves still get a kick up the rear that they need to improve but at least with the belief that they would be in the running for the second halfback spot, whilst also fully expecting all the rumours about halfbacks possibly coming in. It wouldn't have meant we couldn't have still gone after 2, either.

I personally think he was used as a scapegoat in that game. He didn't play well, but that game was all about the pack being poor. Taking into account the circumstances in each game, he was no worse than Heremaia was last night.

I think that's a bit over dramatic but I agree with the gist of your point and said so at the time - Seymour played behind a beaten pack as did Holdsworth for that matter. It was interesting that Gentle made a point of remarking that Seymour had sat with the coaches during the Bradford game for an 'alternate view' of the game and to pick up 'what the coaches were looking for'. Says to me that Gentle wants to play in a certain way and perhaps Seymour is struggling with that. Gentle was proven right in the following two games after Leeds with Holdsworth and Horne producing a good partnership. Maybe unlucky for Seymour after a poor pack performance at Leeds but then Gentle saw Seymour play all last season as well so I doubt the decision was entirely based on that one game.

I think as Hull fans we've suffered so many years of being kept in the dark that the new regime are keen to be seen to be as open with us as possible. I accept the argument that perhaps they haven't calibrated that openness as well as they might have done, but I don't see that it equates to 'spoon-feeding' either.
I also take the point that the club could have made a general statement about strengthening the halves and left it at that. I firmly believe, though, that the plan was to replace Seymour and ship him out before this season started. Had that plan come to fruition, we wouldn't be in this position. A bit of over-confidence on the part of AP, perhaps.
I do think the treatment Seymour has received isn't half as bad as some make out on here. How often, for example, do you hear football managers take over a club and highlight a particular position in which they intend to replace players? It's fairly commonplace, and it's not like he hasn't had his chances.

| What are people getting vexed about SEYMOUR for?,as a man he might be a lovely human being but as a rugby player he has shown over a season that he is very average, luckily we have a coach who can see this.
He'll be gone shortly and I'll GUARANTEE,that whatever club he'll go to (most probably reserve grade),we will not here of him again

| I've made my thoughts on Seymour well known on here - he's not good enough.
But - I do have a problem with Gentle's man management in this particular case, why is he in the 19 if Gentle has absolutly no intention to play him? I thinks that's a tad unfair. If he can't get in under those circumstances he may as well pack his bags now.

Possibly, I remember Kirk Reynoldson (I think) a while back had to make x amount of appearances to get an extra year, then Brian Smith (again I think) dropped him for the rest of the season one game before
