I said I didn't believe JR had any influence over the playing side of the club anymore. To me recruitment of staff and players is a big part of the playing side of the club, if you and 'me n our kid' don't agree with that then I find it baffling, but each to their own!

Think this is where the cross-purposes is coming from. Neither I nor (I think) carl_spackler counts the negotiation of contracts as having 'influence' over recruitment and hence the playing side of the club. Rule likely won't have made any decisions regarding who to offer contracts to or even the best terms and conditions to offer.

I wonder how many people actually fit the bill to apply for those requirements. I can think of one from the other side of the city who was formerley employed by us and since he left I think our conditioning of the team has plummetted.

He was headhunted as top class in his field, and maybe we should do the same and headhunt him back.

There are limited opportunities for head coaches of strength and conditioning around the rugby league world. He has held these positions at Hull and Rovers for the last umpteen years. Maybe he keeps his position because he knows what he is talking about and can put theory into practice. Maybe his record of developing the strength and conditioning of professional players keeps him in the job and maybe he takes them running up Brantingham now n then. He's succcessful at what he does. Otherwise he'd be out of work in this very specific area of employment.

What is your evidence why he isn't top class in his job? cos they run up and down hills? please let me know as this year i study strength and conditioning at University to complete my sports and fitness degree. I'd much rather pay you to lecture me than highly qualified professional experts of sports science and fitness NOT !!!!

If you knew anything about this subject i'd save a fortune and pay you instead, but alas as you know nothing i'll have to shell out a fortune to the experts. Please dont start PM'ing me like last year when you tried unsuccessfully to lecture me on sports psychology. I passed that course by the way by ignoring your intuitive knowledge and I'll do the same this year.

IMO his role on such things was probably just as a go between and to tidy up the paperwork.

yes, he's been so successful the teams he has conditioned have rarely troubled the playoffs, he is outdated and out of his depth, I am glad he's at KR.

My reply is pretty much what he and Kosh have said. He'll be involved, but only in putting into action decisions made by others, which IMO doesn't constitute having an influence on the playing side.

I think, and i am only guessing here. it may have something to do with the quality of players/coach dont you think?? You could be the fittest, most ripped sportsman on the planet but if you cant catch a rugby ball or tackle the opposition you are not going to trouble the playoffs as you put it.

reading books, articles, having a sports science qualification, having being involved in fitness (admittedly P/T) for 15 years until I quit last year, speaking to players from RL and many other sports.

I am far from an "up to the minute expert", but I do know what has been said to me about Mallinsons practices in the past.

Towards the end of his time at FC questions were being asked about our squad's fitness. You claim he was headhunted to Rovers but IIRC Peter Sharp released him as he wasn't happy with the condition of the players following one pre-season. During recent times questions have also been asked about the fitness of the Rovers squad.

Long service at two of SL's less successful sides isn't really a stunning CV when you think about it.

Never claimed to have any knowledge of the world of sports science, just wondered where you got yours.

Why would i want to go there? I was just questioning your statement that we never troubled the playoffs while BM was conditioning coach, which as you probably realise now is completly un-true. in fact as our league finishes show in recent years it is quite the opposite. I have no axe to grind either way, but also pointed out that the quality of the player is quite a major reason for success or failure.

The new conditioning team seem to have experienced a lot of different environments at least with plenty of academic qualifications. Interesting that he's not into the flogging the team to death idea and is a bit more progressive than that. Would still have preferred an NRL conditioner, just for someone more proven at the top level in RL, but hopefully this will work out well. If nothing else, having a clearout pretty much across the backroom staff, could in itself provide some energy and impetus to the squad.
