Didn't the first post to mention it say a forward? I'm wondering if it's a bit of a family affair.

Agree about Minichiello. I was a big fan in his prime, but he's a fair gamble now really. Bowen's probably a better option, but still no spring chicken either. Could fit the bill if Jack Briscoe is expected to be competing for the number 1 shirt in 2014-ish.
In a fantasy world I'd love us to go after Dugan from Canberra, but that's never going to happen.

| minichello would still be a good signing on a 2 year deal had his injuries but seems as though hes got over them and playing good footy, would prefer bowen 1 or 2 years yonger and a 3 or 4 year deal could tempt him again had injuries but looks as though hes got over them and playing some top rugby atm. yeh in dreamland duggan would be great but not going to happen and targetting a minichello or bowen is the most likely way to go. will be intresting to see who comes and goes for next year personally atm
new 7 - seymour?
new fullback - bowen/minichello
with washy, dowes, long, phelps and 1 of fitz and lauaki

Minnichello is playing well again now so would still be a quality signing for 2 years, as would Bowen.

It's not a reflection of his ability/form, as I say I was a big fan of his. I'm just always wary of players having persistent knee/shoulder/back problems. I'm never quite convinced you entirely recover from things like that without increased risk of them reoccurring. Particularly past 30.
I'd have similar concerns with Bowen and his knees, but he's a touch younger.
If these names are our true targets, it seems our NRL recruitment still prizes the recognised name on the downslope, and I think we need to start being more careful with that. We may well be better off going for someone like Grix or Melling and using the overseas spot elsewhere.

| What do we actually need next year?
Outs:
Lauaki, Fitz? Dowes, Long, Phelps.
So we need:
2x Props
1x Second row
1x Scrum Half
1x Full Back
I'll take - Tilse, Carvell, Ellis, Bowen and Seymour(if no one else).
Simple.
And we'd probably only need Fitz and Longs cap space.

A stand-off wouldn't go amiss either.

| So if we get a full back on a 2 or 3 year contract where does that leave Briscoe jnr?
Are we going to bring through any of the young 'uns or we just going to sign anything half decent that's off contract?
I think our youth promotion to the 1st team has been very quiet for some time has it not.

I would expect that a couple of those players would be replaced internally with Cunningham and Green, and there squad places be given you younger upcoming players, thats what we should be looking at doing.
I look to sign 3 players for next year.
FB, Scrumhalf and a Prop.
In an ideal world I would sign 2 halfbacks but that is easier said than done.
Be happy if we sign Bowen, K Mason and a halfback with a kicking game.
Would still give leave us a quota spot or keep Fitz.

Not sure about him, a couple of years agi he looked like making it, the fact that he isn't even playing FB for the reserves may tell it's own story.
Hopefully he will get a run out this weekend to see what he can do.
Needs to go out on a dual reg deal to IMO.

| Tilse has re signed with Canberra, Gower to Souths (ffs), Minichiello will be 32 next year (who said he's in great form?), Ellis has got another few years with wests, Shillington was looking to come to sl but was having second thoughts because of the poor wages, how would laffranchi replace Graham? I'd take Seymour or Tim Smith.
It would be nice to see Taylor play for the club he supports.

| The reason Jack Briscoe is playing on the wing for the 20s is because agar sees him as a winger for the 1st team, simple as that.

Seems strange as he is behind his brother, Sharp and Lyne, all young wingers.
While we only have Phelps (who might not be here next year) at FB.
Surley he has more chance at FB than winger for the first team?
Also I have been informed that Scott Taylor use to attend a lot of Hull games, but infact supported Rovers.
Maybe he is unhappy at Rovers?
