I've been saying for 3 or 4 years now that finishing 4th through playing poor rugby will result in winning nothing. Am i wrong?

I think it's worse than that mate, i think our forwards were outplayed even before the halfbacks not looking interested. Wakey easily got to half way on every set right from the start and we didnt when returning the ball. Our pack was out muscled and looked disinterested.

Even if we end up 6th most fans would have taken that after the last two years. The performances at times leave a lot ot be desired and does the rugby we play but we have improved and our SL position shows it.

Due to the way we've played this year, we won't finish worse than 6th. Performances like tonight are a reminder of last season, but these have been less frequent. So we've improved. Is it that difficult?

Agree to a point we certainly missed Moa and O Meley. There was little/no impact at all and that is their game. I thought there was plenty of effort so wouldn't agree with your 'disinterested' label but we have seen in the previous 2 seasons that without any direction and organisation effort alone isn't enough.

Unless we are first and playing outstanding rugby then no we have not improved, so it seems.

Agreed, but who was the last genuine decent scrum half we had at the club who was available on a regular basis? Tony Smith in 2001? This is Agar's squad. He's went with a risky option in Long and doesn't have adequate cover.

tonights result was disappionting,but it wouldnt surprise me to see hull win next thursday.derby games are very unpredictable.i still think hull are a better team than last year,but to push on we need more quality added to the back division.our backs will never take us to finals.i think it was a pity hull used all there quota spots on forewards this season.

Ive always said on here that league tables are unimportant to me and it's all about performances. I get knocked for saying that because ultimately league table should be all that matters. I've not seen a sustained improvement in our performances for some time now.

We would have improved by not being in the bottom two.

At the start of the season I was very much in that camp. But now I think the backs aren't our biggest issue. Tansey is hero and villain but has a touch of something special about him. Briscoe is class. Turner looks a good prospect. Our bigger problems right now are the over-reliance we've placed on O'Meley and Fitzgibbon and the absence of any halfback options that Agar is willing to take. Tansey in the halves has to be an option for the derby, surely? The rationale for persisting with Washy and Berro in the halves is non-existant. It can't get any less effective.

Yeah I can see Agar getting away with that, ''well we might be 10th but we put in some great performances and play exciting rugby''.

Whilst I'm not jumping straight back on the Agar out train with gusto just yet, I do think the poor quality of rugby is a more than valid complaint.

You're right that Saints won nothing last year. The thing is, a maximum of 3 clubs can win something each year (although we're really talking about 2 trophies), so the significant majority of clubs will finish the season empty handed. The least they can offer their fans therefore is to be entertained.

For me the teams that have the higher performances consistently naturally occupy higher league table positions anyway, there's normally some sort of correlation. We play average rugby most of the time and ultimately thats where we'll end up, mid table with nothing to show for it. I've been saying it for some time.

Been shot down for saying that before but he is our most creative player at the moment. Your sentiment is right - it is currently broken and needs fixing and something needs changing fast.
