Tbh I don't care about that, he is a natural leader and will do loads of talking and organising anyway but he does not need the actual responsibility of being the captain, Fitz should do as it won't affect his game whatsoever.

IF TRUE - Fine by me. We will have other leaders in the pack as well. Long will be on the field for the full game. I don't buy into this idea he will be 'weighed down' by the responsibility. His job is to organise and get us round the field and he will do that. He wont be fretting about what his next captaincy-type responsibility will be. For the first time for years we will have leadership all over the place and the benefits will be massive. Hopefully Longy will be inspired to take 'his' team to some success.

I think time will tell, and like I mentioned I believe it could rejuvinate his game, he has clearly settled down and it may be the time he is ready for the responsibilty.

Lets me honest what does a captain really do anyway, choose if to kick to goal, as long as he leads from the front and sets a good example of the pitch, it will do for me.

I always think the captain should be someone who plays 80 minutes and plays a pivotal role in the team.

i think too much is made of the role of captain, we have several natural leaders in the team and i`m sure they will all play their part on the pitch, the only extra part for the captain to do on the pitch is talking to the ref and passing the refs warnings onto the players, i fully expect Fitzgibbon to lead the forwards and Long to lead the backs.

Care to tell me what a captain does on the field?

Prob realised the main role is to toss a coin and you dont get many people who are as much of a to$$er as Long is

Agar has already referred to Long as being like an on-field coach, so why wouldn't he make a good captain. We will still have the likes of Cusack, Berrigan, O'Meley and Fitz on the pitch to lead the forwards and to give their opinions.

Decent enough choice, IMO. Fitzgibbon would have been more than okay as well, but maybe the fact that Long should be on the pitch more and will still definately be around for 2011 swayed it is way.

I get a feeling that despite both been massively successful, you lot have warmed quicker to Fitzgibbon than Long - I think that'll change when you get get to see him playing in a Hull shirt, much as it did for Calderwood.

Long like Fitz was an obvious choice and I expected Long to get the VC role. We have already been told that Long is organising the attack and will be controlling our kicking game, how much do we want him to do?

Indeed, having Fitz as captain would be sensible, Long is a great player but also has (by his own admission) behaved poorly off the field.

Behaved being the key, however he has clearly grown up and settled down now, this is a good opportunity for him to develop his skills further, I am sure he would love to lift some silverware as a captain and this will add further motivation for him, I am actually a fan of a half/back to be a captain as they are in an ideal place to lead the team.

Yes, some people love to find something to moan about or a negative aspect of the club, dont really think the choice of captain is really a big deal, much like squad numbers but people still critised the club for that.

It is far better than Radford and could mean Radford isnt in the first choice, hopfully anyway.
