| Just seen a video on youtube of campese punching shaul while someone is holding him. Wonder why he didn't try it on tala, fonua or one of the forwards? Hopefully he won;t be banned and dave taylor can trample on him next week

| Not a great tackle that one and he will no doubt cop a ban but the inconsistencies are getting worse, that was probably the 5th spear tackle of the day, there were two in two plays in the previous game (or maybe the one before) yet only penalties given. The rule needs to be clear, is it a red, yellow or a penalty.
Thought Silverwood did ok to be fair, the ref in the Hudds game decided that forward passes didn't exist, Silverwood seemed to ping most of them. The one thing he should have got a grip of was the goading of the other players from each side, he needed to stop the constant 'congratulating' opposition players for mistakes made if they want to stop the inevitable fighting.

The rule is quite clear.
It's a penalty if a player's legs go above the horizontal but he isn't driven into the ground or dumped onto his head/neck. It's a straight red if, like Lunt, you bring the legs WAY up and drive the pplayer into the ground.
Lunt should have got red. Silverfish bottled it. Simple.

Of course you did. His at times bizarre decisions helped keep you in the game.

He should have given campese 10 minutes for whining at him all game.
As for spear tackles, there are degrees of danger with these. Some are just players going over the horizontal where there is no real danger but others see the player being forced head down into the ground. The one from lunt falls into the 2nd category and he should have walked for me. If one of our players had done it and seen red I'd have had no complaints.

Take the black and white specs of for a while and re watch it. Better team won in the end by a score that reflected the game but to say silverwood kept us in it is laughable.

| By the letter of the law, its a red card. It's an very dangerous tackle. There was nothing else even close to it in the rest of the Magic weekend. However, in the reality of the situation, I didn't think it was deliberate and more careless as a result of body position, so while very dangerous I was happy with the yellow.

Well, if Lunt hadn't have been on the field, you wouldn't have had a chance. By the letter of the law, that tackle is a red.

He should have sent Lunt off for the spear tackle. Taylor was never a penalty and he failed to penalise an identical incident involving a Rovers player. His control of the ruck was terrible - some of the slowest PTBs of the weekend. And that's just off the top of my head. On the plus side I thought he handled the punch-up well.
Not the worst performance by a ref but hardly what I'd describe as a good one. But then some people just want to avoid criticising bad performances by officials so that they can sit on a high horse I guess.

I was happy with the yellow card, could of been worst, could of put him on report, at least the ref made a decision. And imo, got it right, taylor penalty was a harsh

Indeed. Overall he did OK at best from my impression at the game. Lunt should have been red and that was a poor and weak decision. It surprised me how there wasn't more done about Allgood's contact with the ref or, despite being captain, the constant whingeing by Campese. While we're on the subject of Terry I've not seen it back yet - did he hit Shaul while someone was holding Shaul as someone else mentioned ?

| Apperently the Rovers forum (secret one) has a thread on how Scott Taylor is a dirty grub for tackling a player who was falling around the head and he should be banned.

If you watch it again I'd say completely the opposite, Lunt knew exactly what he was doing and after trying it initially and failing to get Watts up and turned, he readjusted his grip and position on Watts and then attempted it a 2nd time. So for me that shows definite intent as there was no other momentum or player involvement to act as a fulcrum in the tackle as you normally see. It was a clear red card offence and Silverwood bottled the decision. These tackles are cowardly and one of the most dangerous and rightly have been outlawed in the game and the penalty should be severe.

Bang on the money... He tried first time and failed then when watts offloaded and relaxed his body he did it a 2nd time, and succeeded when watts least expected it. This was cowerdly and should have been a red.

At least Campese's seat will still be warm.
And yes - the Lunt tackle should have been a straight red. He knew exactly what he was doing when he had to make two attempts to get a decent grip on Watts to lift him.
