| If he kept been gifted walk in tries from 5 metres out, then yes.
If he was to be relied upon for breaks or 30+ metre try scoring runs, then no chance.

| As someone said earlier in the thread, if things carry on as they are at present i can see no reason why he should not team up with Tom as a pairing for England but there are a few decent centres in SL at present and injuries loss of form etc can effect anyone at any time.
As for Shenton I think that Kirk when he had a dip in form was better than shenton, sorry but i just dont get why some get excited about him i really dont..

| I rate Shenton in all honesty, I'd have him on the right. (although I'd prefer a fit Gleeson)

Sheldon i couldnt agree with you more, a fit gleeson is still i believe the best centre in England .. who knows he may well still make the cut because he still wants to play for his country and he is one of the few that genuinely do worry the Kangaroos etc

| i don't rate Shenton and he looks too lightweight against what the Kiwi's and Aussies can field would definitely have Gleeson ahead of him.

| Yeaman has to be at left centre especially given the alternatives are Atkins or Welham.
Bridge is the best british centre in the league though.

Bridge is nowhere near a full fit Gleeson IMHO.

Assuming Gleeson is not to be considered then i'd go for Bridge and Yeaman.

| You should be picked on form not reputation (and Macca has been doing this for mine), so Yeamo and Bridge get the spots for me at this stage.

Agree with that, Atkins is hugely over-rated IMO and Shenton is no way near on the form he should be to credit him an England shirt.

Oh dear - not bitter much then??? By the way, how is the world's next great centre that you signed from us getting on? Played U20's at the weekend didn't he? Must be doing pulling up plenty of trees then

spot on , but given his start and the surge in form , expect Gleeson to get a shout IMO, he is playing well enough

I wouldnt say he has had a surge in form...you can certainly see he has class but i reckon he has to be more stand out then he is at the moment to get an England call...i thought he was pretty quiet v Saints.

Not for me...manu is not english and should not play for England....the only reason i would want him in there would be for bias hull fc reasons.

I really dont like to see players who have already played for one nation play for another..makes a mockery of the sport....even hape/lesley etc playing union for england when theve played for nz in another sport is a joke! Weres the pride in that?

True, it never gets mentioned in union as it doesn't make a blind bit of difference in the end. The rules are there & applied and used as they should be for both codes. If a player qualifies through residency (or heritage) then he is elligible for selection. I was surprised to see Faasavalu picked but not upset, as I would not be upset if Manu was picked. The important thing was that Maurie was clearly proud to represent his adopted country and put the necessary effort in. I've seen too many players with "genuine" birth right play for England or GB but looked like they couldn't be asred.
In order to compete, the strongest possible side needs to be picked, if that includes choosing players who where not born in the UK then so be it. The Australians have been doing this for years, their national side is basically an Antipodean all stars team, with players coming from the South Sea islands, NZ and so on. It's nice to be principled and pick the "right" team but principles don't win test series', fielding the strongest possible side from all eligble players does.
