| Quote ="pmarrow"Didn't go to today was working so couldn't even listen on the radio (wouldn't have gone if I was off anyway TBF).
Just a few questions (which although may come across as negative are genuine questions I hope they can answer).
Take away the last 15 minutes of the game , was you happy with the performance ? It was even in the first half and the second half was a half of 2 quarters. First half was adequate just about. 3rd quarter was shoddy defensively. This is in no way an excuse as we are well off for injuries, but our front row steps down a number of notches without Ogre. Starting Props of Dowes and Radders is not going to put any opposition on the back foot. So in summary, no.
Was Harlequins anything special ? Not really. Thought Randall caused us trouble and their kicking game was better than ours but thought it was evenly matched tbh.
More importantly how was the basics, kick and chase ? Chase better than kick. We went to kick early all game but failed to get the length and accuracy to make this effective. Arguably an example of a gameplan that might have been effective had the players executed it well enough.
Was the defense as bad as being reported i:e Karl Pryce beating four defenders ? Very poor in the 3rd quarter. Adequate otherwise. 2 immense try-saving efforts in the corners, one by Sharp the other by Briscoe (although after the latter they scored on the next play).
Seeing todays game do you think we have turned the corner ? No evidence as yet, although it was a fantastic comeback. The thing I'll remember most about it though was the players' reaction, which was brilliant. Never mind high-fiving, they were celebrating as if we'd won a trophy. If they can take that attitude and use it, that's probably more important than the performance tbh.
The reason I want to know is because all the club are plugging is the comeback and very little insight to how the game actually went.'"

| I was really worried leaving the ground today that the drab 70minutes prior to our 10minute blitz would be forgotten. We was just not at the races today, to answer your questions;
- Kick Chase - Our chase was good the kicks from Longy wasn’t great often within a 5m radius of Dorn at FB. The pitch was dry which often meant the ball bouncing a considerable height so i do not understand why the orders to drill the ball low wasn’t given.
- Our defence was at times great and at others woeful. One of the tries from the Quins was from 1m out and was an easy barge over the line which could of been handled better. Quins seemed to target our right side of Whiting and Sharp with just reason.
In all our performance was not up to scratch, we rarely completed two-three passes and our 4th tackle options was poor. The players seemed to congregate in the middle of the field for the duration or our attacking plays happy to play one out rugby. If i didn’t live in London i wouldn’t of gone - the farce with the supporters been ejected for an 'Agar Out' banner seemed to be the highlight and talking point of the entire game, which says everything. Frustrating.

| It wasn't a convincing win at all. I'd go as far as to say Harlequins lost it rather than we won it.
Kicking game was really poor. Can remember three occasions which Harlequin's caught the ball on the full around the half way.
Majority of the game we played strict one-man rugby. It seemed to me like we never used a single dummy-runner, but somehow we were still able to score tries without using any, which shows how poor Harlequins are in defense really rather than any improvements in our attack.
All I want is some sort of hope to be restored that we can compete, but we've lost any element we had of that which was built 2004/5/6.

| So would you put it down as something to build on or something thats just going to paper over the cracks ?
We all know the club will plug it as best as they can, I've give up listening to them hence why I am asking the people who are the best of critics - the fans.

The performance over 80 minutes wasn't a turning point. The last quarter and the obvious jubilant reaction of the players might be galvanising but I don't think we can judge until next week.

| Something to build on in terms of confidence for the players. But papers over the cracks of Agar's inability. I thought the Crusaders game was something to build on in terms of organisation on the field, players were talking and we looked like a team, but that needs to be the basis for every game they play to be relevant. Agar can't maintain that attitude amongst the players, and there wasn't any evidence of it today except in their celebrations at the end.

| I've also got a question, as I didn't listen to all of it. After we went 30-16 down the commentators said Fitzgibbon went off, did he return at all?

| As a Quins fan it was a match with 2 poor teams-First half was fairly even- Hull stuck to going down the middle
2nd half with 15 to go Quins had it won-Howell gave a stupid penalty away which change the momentum and Hull went on to win- Neither team will win many games playing like that.

| We seemed to lack intensity for periods in the game which is worrying...BUT the way we fought back and the celebrations at the end bode well. The sight of the fans actually jumping up and down and the players smiling hasn't been seen so far this year...hopefully this is the start of things to come!

Any idea what the timescale of him off and on in relation to the comeback was? I'm just curious as I'm honestly starting to think he's one of the factors stifling our attack, so it would be interesting if his withdrawal coincided with us starting to score points.

Surely the the fact he was given a breather means precisely that he didn't 'put in his usual shift'?

| We could be negative but ...
The comeback gives us hope. The spirit and joy the players expressed was there for all to see. That can only be good. A good old siege mentality of us against the world including us fans will I hope spur the squad on.
It was all sparked by a penalty that Lauaki won. Not sure what happened but it knocked something into him as he had done sweet fa before that. But the team sparked at that point and the rest is history.
For 65 mins though it was average at best. Kicking game was woeful. Chase ok. Right wing targeted again and came up short a few times. Whiting missed a tackle which created a long range try for them which was uncharacteristic.
Westerman was mom for me. Great running out wide and providing that little bit of guile the forwards have been missing.
Obst was a real handful.
Briscoe was excellent, just hope his broken nose doesn't keep him out.
Ticks is clearly carrying a leg injury he has more padding than the goal posts on his thigh.
Yeaman took his chances well.
Lack of angles being run and too many times the players are taking the ball stood still.
Still lots of problems but that spirit may well carry us through the bad times. Remember we were dead and buried with 15 to go. We had a 24 point turn around. There might be hope.

Pretty much as I saw it. The kicking game was absolutely terrible, no other way to describe it.
SOme flashes of inspiration and brilliance won it.
With no disrespect to quins at all, but a better side than they are would have murdered us.
That said, I was happy and jumping up and down in joy in the sun. Happy days, great weekend.
Think Friday and next friday are pivotal games.

Here's a little bit of crowd and player reaction to Yeamo's winning try. Mr B had it on the wrong speed, so it's in slow-mo and no sound, but quite amusing of Yeaman milking the moment and the crowd loving it. Nice of the players group hugs too.

Think the slow-mo makes it better Mrs B! What made me smile is that the first man to join in the celebrations was Horney (closely followed by Obst), so despite the calls for him not to get a new deal etc, he still obviously loves the club at it means a lot to him, even after 12 years.

The club means the world to Johnnie Whiteley too but would you consider re-signing him?
