That about sums him up.

Does loads of minutes,gets through a lot of tackles without pulling any trees up.
Sort of forward all teams need,our only problem for the last few years this type of forward was all we had.

He allways works runs it in very often although most of the time he makes very few yards once he makes contact with the opposition players. Also untill recently i thought he had very good handling as i perosnally had never seen him drop the ball (cant get to most away games so that maybe why) but recently i have noticed he has droped the ball on a couple of ocassions also his form seems to have dipped due to the fact he knows he is leaving i imagine. Good defence but dont be expecting him to break any tackles.

He is what every team needs...A good solid workhorse.

Ewan's a funny one, on one hand no one can deny his attitude, his workload or his fitness however as a prop he makes no impact in the tackle at all IMO, both in defence and in attack. He's the softests prop in the league IMO. In 2005 he was ok as he had the fitness etc.. and the impact bit wasn't so true however the size of props has progressed IMO and he hasn't at all. He's the weakest link in our pack IMO.

People say 'oh all teams need a player like Ewan' but if you look at when we play Wigan or Leeds he makes no yards at all and if that's what we're aiming for then we have to say Goodbye to players like Hall and Dowes especially on the size of contract Ewan is on (i.e. he may have been worth keeping if he accepted the reduced terms).

I expect the Bulls have signed him as a short term measure to bring the Burgess twins through. Also with us being a prop down all season due to Sculthorpe being out who i can now see being released.

as for dowes...ive never seen the guy break a tackle but a solid defender and solid performer...

Best of luck to Dowes if he's gone. I'd rather be playing against him than have him in our side so i'm pleased with the option taken by FC.

He broke approximately five tackles in eight (??) years.

He's been an excellent servant to the club imo giving us the cover that only a work-horse prop can. If and when he leaves I won't be joining in with "FC reject" if it starts up when he plays against us.

Looks like the Yorkshire Post have him gone, and signed. No big loss for me personally but will miss him he has been around a long time and a good club man too. However you have to ask if you aspire to be the best team in the League and you attained those lofty heights is it likely that Ewan would be in your stating 17? He has been a good servant but I would agree with a lot of the above. The club should only pay players what they think they are worth! Good luck to him!

I doubt the club will let him go without a replacement lined up and the more that go, the more ability to recruit under the cap you have.

Think some people being a tad harsh on dowesy I still wouldn't mind him here next season because who we going to get in to replace him , fielden could be in for cusack + radford

That chant, tbf, is reserved for a certain type of ex player. Doubt Dowes would get that treatment.

This is a valid point for me. We need 5 props IMO, Fielden will replace Cusack, if Radford and Dowes also leave we need 2 more props, or 1 if Lauaki moves up there. Fitz, imo, shouldn't be anywhere near the front row.

It's an interesting point. Will he be able to play 80 minutes next year? I don't think so TBH, I'd maybe move him to prop as he effectively plays there anyway and spell him more. Westerman would perhaps be our 13 or Washy.

Can i say that as a club man there have been few better that Ewan Dowes.. model professional, looks after himself well, isnt a media whore or a flash git .
With regards being on the field this lad would play every day of the week for 80mins solid if asked, is a solid stopper ....
However thats what he is a stopper not a runner.. always been somewhat ineffective in attack and is somewhat one dimentional with his attacking play but that isnt what we wanted him for we used him as a stopper and nothing more and anywhere he goes that is what they will get a full on 150% stopper.
Great lad, been a part of some great times for FC and i for one wish him well if he does decide to leave us as there is NOTHING bad you can say about Ewan apart from maybe his own personal valuation of himself isnt quite what the club think and thats it, one of the good guys IMO

He's served the club well for a long time but he is exactly the quality of player that has to go if we are to compete for honours. Lots of effort and application but not good enough for a team with the highest aspirations.

With Cusack, Radford and Dowes out and Fielden in, surely that would mean one more prop to come in ??

Has the LMS interest gone for good ? Or do we have other props that we are currently talking to ?
