We should sign Phelps and use Tansey and Nicklas as cover for the halves. Injuries will happen and due to Berrigans injury last season Houghton took his chance. Calderwood and Whiting got injured and Lynn took his chance so injuries will give Nicklas a chance. Longys elbow injury could have happened to anyone and cant be put down to his age. I would like Sammut as he would improve the squad but if we dont sign another half back then I wont be full of doom and gloom. We managed last year when Berrigan missed lots of games and where one game from finishing fourth. I also think with Westerman being a ball playing loose man we have options.

If wire are sounding out Eastmond then we must chuck our hat in the ring as well.

i'm still hopeful of Jarrod Sammut. I'd be be happy if we signed him for 2 or 3 yrs and i think he'd be a great little ace in the hole

failing that i'd be happy with Sam Obst - he's better than no cover at all and i'd much rather see him interchange with Houghton than Washbrook any day of the week.

last season we complained at Washbrook at 6, next season it's looks like we'll complain at Washbrook at 9. oh the joys!!

neither do I, I know wire are good at 'cap management' but even they would struggle to show Eastmond under the cap without moving out one of their star players.

but wire do have some big stars out of contract at the end of season including matt king whos rumoured thats this is his last year and wants to go back home and hes on big bucks, joel monagahan only on a 12 mounth contract

I can only see Eastmond leaving saints for RU. Cant see him going to Wire.

I think we have better options too this year. Whiting can play fullback meaning we have Tansey to use in the pivotal positions plus Westerman can play 6 and has doen for Cas in the past plus Nicklas is a year older. I think we still need a couple of bodies to pad the squad out and if we can't get halfback cover I would like to see some back/hooking cover.

Why should Agar give his head a bang? Maybe the Sammutt deal is too much for a player who might only stay one or two years? Maybe he rates Nicklas as highly as Moore and as for Obst I agree he would be a decent signing but I would play him as a hooker and not a half.

Can I ask why all of a sudden Moore is being talked so highly, if he was that good then surely a SL side would have snapped him up by now?

moore is been talked about because hes a talented young half thats young and proved it in the championship and with full time training at a super league club potentially who knows how good he could become, ohh and i think as a club we need halfback cover i think anyway

I said on here 18 months ago we should have made an offer for him, loads said he was rubbish and should not go for him, we then signed Long........

Cannot answer why he hasnt being snapped up by a SL club yet - maybe he is high maintenance?

From my point of view by leading Batley successfully last season in a very competitive Championship division puts him ahead development wise of Nicklas and Williams and given the fact he is both young and English would seem to be an ideal choice for number 7 cover to the Hull first team right now.

I reckon that we should keep space the open and the money in our pockets for now . As a team we do not have to panick buy YET . Sammut might be asking for to much plus he does want to return to the NRL .
18mths - 2years ago no one had heard of Kyle Eastmond lets hope our youngsters can replicate him .Why buy some one who is not planning to stay . Why buy some aged Australian just over to top up his pension . EVERY one is always harping on about the overseas players stopping our [British youths from progressing well lets give them a chance hopefully they will step up to the mark . Heres hoping

Not sure about Moore to be honest, i've heard he's got potential but i agree there's no guarantee at SL level

Regarding Agar i would be very disappointed going into 2011 without HB cover when the injuries are inevitable. I think Sam Obst would be a good signing for a year or two and we could probably prize him away from Wakefield - i would think there's more chance of that than signing Sammut from crusaders

If Horne/Long/Houghton do not get injured then i take it all back

was that the plan than involved offloading their over the hill injury prone players to a lesser SL club while having a ready made replacement coming through the ranks, must be nice to have a plan.

That's fair enough but there must be soem reason that Leeds let him go and other clubs have not signed him? I would have thought he would be worth the risk though, not much to lose as Nicklas is a 6 and Williams is still a couple of years away from first grade.

I am thinking it might be better to keep our money in our pockets for a while in terms of halves as something always materialises during the season so we would be in a prime position to act.

Sts made no bones about it. Our problem with planning to bring good young players through is probably that we just don't have enough of them. The recent England academy squad announcement underlines why Sts , Wigan , Wire Leeds and even Bradford are ahead of us with between 4 and 6 representatives each in the squad to our 2.

I would guess any young half back at leeds must look at the McGuire/Burrows partnership and realise chances may be very limited especially when Leeds tend to move Sinfield to 6 when either player is injured.

I agree about keeping the money in our pockets because good players will become available once the season starts on both sides of the world and by then over inflated prices will not be such an issue.
