Well, I'm going to have to disagree with him. I would say the team that lost to Saints in the CC quarter final in 2004 was stronger

on paper this seasons squad must be right up there,with the likes of shrek, longy and fitzy

I agree with him that it is. Strong on paper sadly doesn't mean perform on the pitch.

Oh the Halcyon days of 2004 when we played decent attractive attacking rugby. Compare that to todays dross and i feel very aggrieved!

Okay I will (stats from RFL Fans.com Statistics)

Yeaman, Dowes, Horne, Whiting still with us from those days. I think you'll see some good players but also some that I think many would be calling "dross" nowadays.

We were fourth after 8 games and still in the same position after 12 games, and we were on 11 points whereas Huddersfield were fifth with 10 points. We had scored 203 points and had conceded 147 (difference = 56)

We are now fifth after 8 games on 10 points which is the same points as Huddersfield who are in fourth. We have scored 194 and conceded 143 (difference = 51)

It all looks very similar to me

Actually when you look at it that was one hell of a squad, strength and depth all over the place

Yep could not agree more, he might have been a lot of things but Mr Pringle certainly signed players and constructed game plans with attractive rugby in mind! Loads grumbled about him though!

They did, most fans seemed in agreement that we needed a change just before he left. He was really well liked but we needed some fresh impetus at the time.

even so I'd still say our 2007 squad that finished 4th was stronger. This team has done nothing for 2 years, and is floundering already this season and we haven't even passed easter yet.

I think the feeling under the last days of Mcrae was that he was a 'nearly' man, he built a good team, promoted some good youngsters etc..but in the big games we'd underwhelm.

I would take him back now though!

If we'd be able to field a decent team for the back end of that 2004 season I'm convinced we'd have at least come close to winning the comp.

That 2004 team played some great rugby but Shaun McCrae is definitely not the answer to our problems. I really think we need to get a reality check we're 8 games in with a host of new signings, lets give Agar a break and judge him and the team over a decent spell of games. I agree with loads of the posts about how rubbish and disappointing we've been esp at Crusaders and Salford but two wins over Easter (big ask I appreciate) and we'll be firmly back on course for top 4 finish. Lets give Agar at least half a season!

And as I pointed out on your Diary Thread and got totally misunderstood by one person!! Do not underestimate a team sent out by Himself - we had some great moments under him even though we did not win a thing but not many teams have over the Super League era. My memories of Richie Barnett, Colin Best, Steve Prescott and of course the great man Jason Smith will live a long time.

Yep , To much pace out wide for this current side.

better in every position, except the bench is arguably a bit weak.
