Just had a conversation with my Dad who was struggling to get any content on ITV player to work, they live in HU14, he was downoad speeds of 1616 and upload speeds of 362.

I'd bee greatful if as many of you as can be bothered could run [url=http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/Broadband Speed Checker[/url and post the first part of your postal code and the results on this thread, I'd also recommend getting [url=http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloadingThis[/url and running it, it's free and safe and is really good at tidying things up on your PC.

ITV players is absolutely hopeless, which is probably the issue, not broadband speed.

i haven't ever managed to get anything to work on there (although I haven't tried for months) yet can watch things on BBCIPlayer and 4OD fine.

thanks to everyone for the replies, seems he's getting a fairly standard speed, just glad I don't have to use Karoo!

Standee what speed does it say he is likely to get on here karoo.co.uk/products/broadband/t ... ecker.aspx You can do various things to improve the speed slightly (removing ring wire, plugging into master socket etc) i presume these have been done as you seem to have a good grasp of computers in general.

It says he can get an average of 6mb, I've done all the usual stuff as you suggested (and a few other things) but above 4mb is as good as it gets, the problem is KC have spent nothing on their infrastructure in the West Hull villages for ages, he's probably on copper wire to an ancient exchange that has had the bare minimum done to allow it to provide broadband.

You are probably right but 1616 is nowhere near 6mb. Any idea what the router connection stats are?

It was hopeless a few months ago, but has improved a lot recently.

It was up to 3682 by the time we'd done some tinkering yesterday, I'll have to look at it myself when I am next up to see them, it's not easy talking someone over doing stuff over the telephone.

That is a lot better than 1616 but still poor in this day and age. Pointless ringing karoo because they just say the line is fine and thats the best you can get.
They wont be upgrading lines in the near future either, the only hope we have is if someone takes them over and opens us out to the rest of the country.

Sad really when you think not that long back we were number 1 in the country and all those in BT land were envious of us.

I'm HU15 and with BT. I've seen my speeds deteriorate from a consistent 4.5 to 5 download to 1.4 at peak times and maybe the low 3's later at night. BT say nothing wrong with pine they tested from their end at 6 whereas I tested using their checker at 1.3. They reckon the problem was at my side of the router so tried 3 other laptops all with same results. It's a big issue for me as I play xbox live so speed and bandwidth are important. Not happy been with them 4 years at least Karoo offer a gamer profile on ADSL2 that protects you at peak times. Waiting for one of those accelerator plates now to cut out the bell wire.

Which BT package are you on, how far from the exchange and which of their home hubs do you have, I got sent a new one with the accelerator, plugged it in and after a day I stuck the old one back in!

First thing to do is get rid of the terrible Thomson router.

He wont have the thomson on BT. The thomson router on karoo packages is truly awful though and should be reserved as an emergency router should your main one fail. You can pick up decent netgear routers off ebay for next to nothing now the DG834GT models work very well.

Was Thomson the god awful SpeedTouch one?

Does anyone use anything other than NetGear nowadays?
