| Just to get my own head around things more than anything else......
Am I right in thinking left OOC at the moment;
Hall
Tuffour
Kent
Cusack
Dowes
Radford
Calderwood
Assuming that Cusack goes, that leaves us with no quota spaces left anyway for next season?
Assuming all the other OOC players sign on the same terms as they are now, what's a rought estiamte of how much we could feasibily have left on the cap?
Cusack's wage + raynor + king................?
About £150k, bearing in mind we could use an extra £50k cos of the 10 year service rule for King, so if we use this on Horne, we have approx £200k for next year?
As I say, this is just musing to get my head round where I think we stand..............

| You'll probably find players who have renewed particulary Tickle and Manu have received much improved deals and the upgradng of Lyne, Whiting and Fitz will have cost too because hey will all have received increased offers. I think we will might have money for one or two incoming players but they won't be quota or mega signing. Berro could prove a problem now, because we could do with his salary and quota spot to play with, but he is staying due to him playing suffcient games to meet the terms of his option clause to keep him on for another year. Just my thoughts but the club are constantly warning us that 'all these re-newals spell no money left!'

Aye, I remembered the renewals after I had posted. I would agree then that maybe a couple of Uk based signings, but that's it. I suppose it depends on how much calderwood/radford/dowes are on and what we do with them.
Berrigan is sadly staying put by the looks of it, think that end of next year might be interesting as regards recruitment, as we could see an almighty shake up!

| My guess -
Hull will sign a fed-trained replacement for Cusack, and it'll be someone pretty good. Calderwood will be replaced like for like, slightly pointless, but seems likely IMO. You'll sign a cover hb - but it won't be somebody like Robinson or even Orr. And certainly not Bosc! Somebody from the championship, with potential and who can be dual-registered. Or if you do raid Hudds for one of their many halfs, it'd be McNally.
Berrigan played enough games, so the option was his.

It's impossible to put figures on things as no one really has a clue what the money side of things are. I was told we were in the market for 2 possibly 3 players. The make up will probably be two good british SL players, one a back (wing or centre) and one a forward (prop/backrow) and then possibly a younger player or older player (one year deal type thing) to come in to help cover the halves possibly.

I was under the impression that for Berro to stay at the club there a number of triggers in his contract and that both he & the club wanted him to re-sign. This was confirmed by DDD when I was pestering him on the subject two seasons ago.

| I'd go for a prop to replace Cusack, a winger to replace Calderwood and sign cover for scrum half, a natural scrum half.

I just said on another thread, don't think we need to replace Cusack, just move Lauaki to prop. He's not a great second rower, and I think he would do a better job for us at Prop. I would then play Fitz, Tickle and Manu from the off, and bring on Washy/Whiting then at 13, for whoever is tired, and have a ball handler for the last 15 mins of the half at 13 to try and unlock hopefully tired defence.
I think we need wingers and halfbacks and a priorty. Think that this years recruitment is going to be minimal, next years crucial.

Don't mind Lauaki at prop, but if we can get him running on to the ball out wide then he would be devastating.

I'm starting to think that no matter where he runs he isn't devastating. 2 good games in and FC shirt and doesnt run the ball in hard enough for me.

| SB is going to be here next season but if there was ever a player who needed the off season it is Shaun, he needs to go home, get some sun and surf and deal with family issues that he simply cant do here! he is fatigued both physically and mentally to be fair and is still suffering family bereavment issues which is understandable so far from home.
with a decent end of season and a good break back in Oz on the beach we will see the old SB back again and we will need him too.
lets not get carried away on the "get rid" crazy train ok, SB is a world class player that has had more injuries than he would have expected all of which has hampered his time here...
Think of RW, he came good after worse injuries didnt he??? and everyone wanted rid of him i recall too

| I'm sorry EXPRO but Berrigan is no longer world class, he may have been at one time, but he hasn't shown anything in the time he has spent at Hull that comes close to being world class.

I agree his shiney moments have been few and far between but i guess he isnt as young or as fast as he once was but he still grafts thats for sure, however he has had an unlucky run of injuries and issues etc but with a good off season he will come good and I think he will shine in the play offs too as that is what he has a lot fo experience in, the big ones!!!
Problem we have is we have been blessed with world class legends at hooker and loose man at Fc over the years and everyone is measured against those men

Yes we've had world class players like Swain, but then we bring an Oz international world class hooker over and he's not at the level to lace the boots of Swain. We shouldn't label Berro world class if he isn't, and we should pay him the salary that a world class player would demand.

We being saying we will see best of berro last 2 off seasons and hasn't happened another year on it won't either . Think most people agree would have being an ideal time to let berro go not because he's rubbish or anything stupid like that just because we could use his wages a lot better elsewhere in the team and also houghton is developing all the time and is now 1st choice hooker so were will he fit in . Yes he can be interchange hooker but too much of a luxury just to play 25-30 mins a game
