An offer has been made, the FA haven't made any comment. £800m is well below it's value and the land around it. It cost nearly £800m to build, a world famous stadium doesn't depreciate.
Unless of course I've not read something you have.
I've read some more articles, the offer is £500m, England playing on the road and at Wembley. The FA keeping the Club Wembley side of things and Jacksonville playing "home" games there. Shad Khan seems to be the only person talking it up. Jacksonville are hardly a glamour team in NFL.

Hopefully the country can sell The Houses of Parliament and a few of the royal castles too. More research needed, but isn't Wembley subject to covenants. Depending how quickly this happens FC could be the last team to win the CC at Wembley...

i doubt they will be able to sell it as Wembley was built with over 150 million of Government and lottery funding.
The Government will step in.

| Their problem is the debt charges and interest they are still paying on the loan they took out to rebuild it. around £300,000 a week apparently.

Thought as much, similar to the KC, The FA don't actually "own" it, WNSL do, had Sport England and Central Government funding, valued at over £1bn (well over), can't see this being legally (or morally) right.

Easy to fix, stop giving PL clubs so much of the TV money, that's roughly what Rooney "earns", stop paying off failed England managers massive mobneu, move out of Central London to Halifax. The FA are as bad as the RFL at business management.
Wembley BELONGS to the Nation (in my view)

You don't understand how things work, sorry but that's the reality.
You wouldn't get the original cost of the KCOM selling it now, not even close so why would you think something with an even bigger financial liability would too? "World famous stadium", oh come on, it's nowhere near as iconic as the old wembley was, and as for not depreciating, sorry but on what basis are you making that guess?
A quick look at the financial reports will tell you that it isn't the massive profit making venture people think it is. The first accounts I came across where from 2013, WNSL had an operating profit of £8M (Down £5M on the previous year) but a net loss and depreciation is very much a huge cost, this was from a turnover of less than £90M. There's an ongoing 10 year roof repair in progress that is costing a bomb already and it's only just had its 10th year!
www.wembleystadium.com/~/media/p ... ul-13.ashx
"Tangible fixed assets have reduced from £645.2m at December 2012 to £635.0m at July 2013, with the majority of this reduction due to depreciation of £16.8m."
Here's the 2016 report, https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/docu ... ldWH1wU%3D
It's a massive ball and chain and for prospective buyers, a huge long term financial investment that has struggled to make returns, we talk about how the club wembley thing has been a shambles at the CC final and yet that has been the focus of the company (which they readily admit) in terms of revenue streams.

Any new owner of the stadium will want maximum usage from it for a return. They would not have to go looking for a new customers for the August Bank holiday weekend as they already have one with the RFL.
Not sure why some are getting hot and bothered about this. It will remain a stadium for the foreseeable future. There will be contracts in place which will need to be honoured for its usage.
Finally, and probably most importantly, Wembley is a fantastic sports venue, however its lost its special feel since its been rebuilt. Its basically a big version of Arsenals ground and is not longer distinctive as the old stadium once was. Its become an events venue rather then a sporting one. The evidence of this is clear when you see the corporate seats near the players tunnel which are unoccupied until 5 minutes after kick off / half time. Its hardly a great advert for any sporting event there when the prime seats are empty are the beginning of the game.
Let the FA sell it and then build an 80k venue North of London which is far more accessble to the masses.

So long as the FA give ALL of the money back to HMRC, I agree, it was paid for by the people of the UK, It wont be available in August as Jacksonville will want to play pre-season games there. The FA, like the RFL, have lost control. No need for a new stadium IF it's sold, plenty of capacity at other grounds around the country.

| Always thought we should build Rl stadium for the national team and cup finals , Odsal is a perfect place a natural ampitheatre . The CC , GF and all England games, there would cost a lot of money but rather spend it in the north than have to go south where they have no interest in RL whatsoever.

Problem was the new stadium went way way over budget and cost far more than its probable (or real) value. ATEOTD it will only be worth what someone is willing to pay in terms of a structure plus the value of the land it sits on.
The land will no doubt have gone up in value due to development in and around the area and will continue to do so but the value of the stadium will probably remain fairly static or indeed decrease due to limited use of facility and the running & upkeep costs associated with such.
The simple reason the FA will be looking to offload is that they simply can not afford to pay for it.
Wembley for me lost all its tradition and feel when they demolished the twin towers, that for me was a sign the FA didn't give a knack about history and tradition when they sold out the sole of the place. So no wonder they are willing to sell it now.

From what I have read, they can't realistically sell it. Would have to be signed off by the government. Can you imagine if a UK businessman tried to buy Soldier Field in Chicago... there would be riots!

It wasn't paid for solely out of the UK tax system. Its not a government asset.
Do you really think Jascksonville will play all of their games at Wembley? The prospective buyer is a business man. Why cancel an event (CC Final) for this? To maximise income from US football, they would stage the games to coincide with TV viewing in the US = Sunday afternoon in US = evening UK.

The big difference is the Americans care about their history and traditions and although the totally rebuild it they preserved and kept the original exterior something the FA chose not to do. The difference with Soldier Field is it has always been owned by the Chicago Parks District and is all connected to the Lake Front area. Where as Wembley is just a soulless stadium with no other remains of history or the past or parkland and is owned by the FA not the local council or government.

| They still wont be able to sell it without government approval, I know what you mean about the NFL schedule, but it takes 6 days to get Wembley into NFL "mode", if the FA sell it, fair enough. Selling your soul to the devil seems to be at the core of Football.
