Some would argue that he struggled being a ref anyway. Not sure how good this is tbh. As Neil said, are the other guys up to the job yet, and who will be the "new" ref. Of course the Hollywood experience and Ganson's arrogance will be official company policy now too.

 Moved Upstairs Ganson Hangs Up His WhistleAfter eighteen years at the pinnacle of his trade, Steve Ganson has announced his immediate retirement from refereeing to step into the role of 'Match Officials Coach and Technical Director', vacated by Stuart Cummings departure earlier in the season.
Many supporters will breath a sigh of relief as the St. Helens based official takes up a managerial position and vanishes from our pitches and screens, but he will undoubtedly leave a void within the refereeing fraternity which will be difficult to fill.

Called Ganson many a time but he was one of our better refs, at least he would make a decision. I'm glad he's got the top job, he might be a strong enough character to make an impression.

The policing of the Hudds defensive line was at best incompetent, they were offside at 90% of all the plays, so much that Crabtree managed to get to the first receiver as he caugt the ball, which makes him quicker than Usain Bolt.
I also estimate at least 20 forward passes, including two in the build up to Wilds try, how they were missed was unbelieveable. JM said on Humberside that the officiating was diabolical, I personally thought it was so biased it was bordering on cheating by Thaler. He is a poor referee, even on the televised games I have watched him in. I did notice one thing yesterday about him, when the fans were getting 'irate' enough for a tannoy announcement to be made, he looked over and grinned, a more mature and professioinal referee would not have reacted in any way at all. Maybe he has an ego and needs to be the centre of attention, in which case a public demotion to the National Leagues might curb it a bit.
Thaler was an embarrassment to decency in refereeing, he was so biased it was sickening.

I always thought Ganson was too full of himself when reffing but I had to laugh when I heard he'd be replacing Stuart Cummins who's another conceited official.
I've written several complaints to Cummins about refereeing decisions and never received what I thought to be a balanced and reasoned response. In his opinion, the referees were always right: there will be no change with Ganson taking over!
