| WARRINGTON WOLVES’ RESPONSE TO THE CROWD ISSUE.
Following extensive investigations following the crowd /stewarding disturbance at the play off match on Saturday night against Hull FC the Warrington Club release the following statement.
After a thorough debrief of the incident involving the club, stewards, police, Hull FC and the security company employed by Warrington Wolves, it was found that the incident occurred as a Hull FC player was handing his boots to a young child in the West Stand and as a result of this there was a surge forward by the Hull fans trying to congratulate their team at the end of their season. Unfortunately some Hull FC fans jumped over the electronic advertising boards on to the field requiring a group of stewards to take actions to get them back into the West Stand. The evidence gathered shows over- robust tactics by a member of the security staff followed by taunting of the Hull fans.
Warrington Wolves will be meeting the security company in the next few days to ensure that this particular person is not deployed at The Halliwell Jones Stadium again. Warrington Wolves would like to thank the Hull FC fans for travelling in tremendous numbers and creating an absolutely superb atmosphere and reassure fans that this was an isolated incident. Indeed the club have received e-mails and letters from Hull fans thanking the club on how they were treated at the match. We look forward to welcoming the Hull FC fans back to The Halliwell Jones Stadium next season.
ENDS.
And with this immediate response Warrington Wolves have t be applauded on their actions and concerns.

I'm happy with that.

The 'statement' leads the reader to conclude that we 'surged' for no apparent reason and the idiots who breached the perimeter fencing (which BTW they should be identified and prosecuted) contributed towards 'over aggressive' stewarding.....does it not ?
Maybe I'm being over sensitive.

| Fair enough. I'd take issue with "some" fans going over the perimeter, as I only recall one, but that's a decent response from them.

Do you think they covered off all the 'alledged' incidents that happened and that by this quick, commendable statement it becomes a 'cop-out' ?

Not at all, what other action do you want?
The steward was unprofessional and provocative but nothing more, banning him from stewarding any further games seems fair.
They would be within their right to prosecute the Hull fan(s) that breached the perimeter fence but I'm guessing you don't want them to pursue this?

I highly doubt that!
Boycotts never cause any real impact, if we staged a boycott next year there'd still be 1,500+ Hull fans there, most people would have forgotten or not have been bothered in the first place and would just want to go to the game.

It seems clear that this paticular company has a bad reputation amongst us Hull FC supporters and not just isolated incidents from the last game at the HJ.
Warrington appear to be clearly patting themselves on the back by getting one ? bad apple being banned from stewarding for a couple of hours work at the HJ.
You need to read my replies more closely.....I want anybody who invades the pitch area to be prosecuted.

I think all this depends on how you interpret the statement, I see it that they have identified a recent issue which the received complaints on and acted on it.
Aside from changing companies/security tactics there is little more they can do and doing this would take time, money and unnecessary effort. As these incidents are scarce they have no real need or motivation to go down this road.
I for one am in the majority when I say I've been to the HJ on multiple occasions and never had any trouble.
Apologies, I haven't read your post's, I was merely responding to the one directed at me.

| Looking by all the comments including Wire's statement there seems to be a bit of common ground really, I for one in the south just saw a shmozzle but nothing that actually started it. By the sounds, it's One or two idiots going on the pitch, some idiot stewards thinking they're the dogs nuts and power crazy. Seems fair to me, get rid of the provocative bob-end and we should be OK.
Shame you guys don't bring the millions of away fans over the Pennines like KR do to every game though
Good vocal support, see you guys again next year!

| Happy with that statement
I did see one or two fans come onto the pitch when the incident got heated
In hindsight the stewards should have just let Heremia come up to the crowd without fuss but it could've been a lot worse so glad it has been resolved

| I got the same response from Warrington. Fair enough - there was blame on both sides and they have acknoledged this.
Agree with Chris in that I only saw one Hull fan climb over the hoardings.

| There was more than one fan went over, I was stood alongside him when he did, another fan and I pulled him back over to our side to alleviate the mayhem. The Warrington Wolves club and their stadium manager Bernie Lenihan deserve praise for their swift response and actions. No need to allay the blame on the club for one idiotic steward.

| I saw 2 incidents. AFAIK one at the right hand side of the stand (where we were stood) which was where the lad was getting the boots and Aaron was pushed away by the steward, another one at the left hand side of the stand which was where it really kicked off with bouncers throwing punches.
When we were stood under the stand after it all calmed down one supporter was being ejected by the bouncers and a couple of minutes later a lady with a couple of kids was talking to one of the stewards and was explaining something about a domestic between her ex and somebody else - I don't know if this is what kicked off the aggro at the left hand side of the stand.
