Hi all.... off over to Oz next week.... and while i am there, going to catch the South Sydney Rabbitohs v Cronulla Sharks game. I was doing a bit of research to see who will be playing and noticed Colin Best will be playing for Sharks... However, his profile doesn`t mention his time at Hull FC in 2003/2004... just thought it was odd really and wondrered why ?

It happens a lot with players who have played over here . There career in SL or pre SL is hardly , If at all mentioned in Aussie stats .

He was a good player at his time with us and quick.. what's he like now?

What a player, what memories, even the misdirected pass behind our line which gave away a try to the Broncos in our first SL match at the KC.

Watching FC for over 50 years he is in my all time XIII on the wing with Sully.

Happy days and great to see him still playing at the highest level.

For me and my son an FC 'legend' altho he only played 2 seasons. Happy days and we won nought but what entertainment.

I think he scored about 40 tries in about 60 games but no way is he a "legend".

Each to their own opinion.

Colin best was a good player for us, but in my time of watching, Prendiville, O'Hara, Paul Sterling and Gareth Raynor were better wingers.

wish we had more of his like with regard to his injury record too. never missed a game, and in face never even missed a training session
also bucked a trend somewhat of a young aussie player coming to superleague to play when he could have got a gig in the nrl
what a combo he and richie barnett senior were with jason smith often starting attacking moves from inside our own 30 with a quick wide pass

There's a couple of good games on on the sunday in sydney as well.

He got 'man of the match' last weekend......an awesome display.

Think they said he was 34 years old on commentary.

When he joined us for the 2003 season I think he was 22 years old then.

34 this year, seems to have been around for an age!

I thought he was a very good player, but it helped him that he had a great centre (Barnett) a great set of pviots in Cooke, Horne and Smith and McRae's tactics at the time were full of attacking flair.

Great great player - and hands like shovels. We were certainly watching some good rugby back then - lets hope those times are coming back.

The last "truley fast" winger we have had.Remember his try against Halifax when he did Cardiss,who was no slouch,on the outside.

I can remember him going full length against rovers. dunno if was at home or away though?? he reminds me of pat richards in a way

Remember him getting tackled near the oppo line in one game, getting his arm free and holding the ball out one handed for what seemed like ages before flicking it to one of three supporting players for the try.

Great player and a nice guy too.

Sts at home when we was going through our battering them stage.

Ta. Loved that 2 or 3 of them couldn't put him down.

My main memory (and I might be making this up

) was Leeds away, and a great try from Best was disallowed for stepping in touch. Replay showed he brilliantly kept his foot milliletres in, but was too late. I believe that this happened, but was clearly a bit drunk if it was leeds away

One thing people may have not noticed on the profile or on the thread is he is actually playing centre now. Just shows a winger can switch to that position and manage to play it in the NRL. Only seen him playing centre this year not sure how long ago we made the switch.

Think he's been a centre for about 3 seasons now. Was a joy to watch Besty when he was here. Him and Barnets partnership was unreal arguably the best in the league barring Hape and Vainakolo.

The Panther was one of the best players i've seen in black and white and i've seen some good uns since 1979,pure class. I can remember taking time out to watch him for london at full back cutting into the line with perfection at the boulevard,even as an opposition player in a poorish team you had to admire the brilliance of the man. Little did we know we'd sign him,shift him to centre and put a rookie speedster outside him and the rest is history. His abilty to get on the outside of his opposing centre was done with such ease it had to be seen to beleived,not to mention his massive hit on pencywicz,one of my all time favourites for his pure class,everything Besty needed at the time.
All down to Bomber as well.
