Just been having a conversation about all things Hull FC, with the topic of Richard Agar coming up, which got me to thinking about how he (Agar) has divided the 'Old Faithful' fans.

So what are your thoughts about Rich Agar?
-Is he the man for the job?
-His contribution to Hull FC?
-How many games to save his job?
-Who would/do you want as Coach?
etc...

no point discussing old thoughts and opinions, better to discuss actual games/squad rotation/tactics in a few months when we've played some games.

am I not right in saying that Hull had the largest number of season ticket holders in the SL last season ?
That indicates to me that someone is doing something right !

no, it's an indication of the dedication of the supporters and a blind faith in FC.

one thing that has never been in doubt is the dedication of the Faifthful, and that isn't just SP holders either, I know many "walk up" fans that are just as dedicated, they just can't find that kind of cash at the time of year it's needed.

-Is he the man for the job? The results turned around last season so lets see.
-His contribution to Hull FC? Has to be credited for getting the experience of Fitz and Ogre in last year and getting Westerman and Sharp in now who are not exactly rookies but still young enough to improve even more.
-How many games to save his job? any improvement on last year and his job will be safe.
-Who would/do you want as Coach? Agar at the moment

Recruitment wise has been decent apart from his struggles for a playmaker what isnt coming to the end of there career or injury prone. His very dull 5 drives and a kick apart from being very boring to watch tells me that his tactics are poor and just hides behind the fact its not his fault its the playmakers there injured. Would be interesting to see what we do with a fit 6 and 7 for most of the year. Agar is a decent coach but a club of fcs size and the strong fanbase this club has really should have a much high profile coach at the helm plus a big named well respected coach would be a big help bringing over the big names of the NRL.

ok,sorry about that - it's just that I was reading The 18th Man,number 14 (Hull v Leeds last home game) 2010 where your CE James Rule says 'record numbers have followed their team this season with over 9500 season passes sold,a figure which could well be the highest in SL this season....'
Is there anywhere with such stats available ?

Negative points difference in 2010 says it all for me.

All you need to do to get a feeling about How fans feel about Agar is read just about any thread on this board as they all eventually lead to talks about Agar

The OP should be ashamed of himself, just for a second when I saw the thread 'Richard Agar' I thought that perhaps he had been sacked, saving me from another season of watching boring rugby with zero imagination. The thread is pretty pointless as most fans views are set in stone.

Personally I cannot see how he would be anyone's choice as coach, those who tie up supporting the club and team with supporting him are misguided in my view. We all want the team to do well and play well and will support them, however I just cannot see him making us competitive at the top of SL, no matter how many contract extensions he gets. If we have any ambitions I think we need change.

Agar starts with a bit of a clean slate as any coach does for any season. I'll judge him again based on the performances on the pitch (not that i'll see them)

The only difference for me is that he has a little less flex for poor performances this year than he did last year.

History would say for me that he isn't up to the job. I'm happy to have him prove me wrong and he has the chance.

I think most of us are in that situation!

I've lost count of the number of times i've thought this going into a season only to be let down. Pray for once that this year a coach can live up to my expectations around getting performances out of a side.

surely the yardstick is Wigan with Maguire - he turned basically the same squad of players from an average SL outfit to a winning side - same players different regime/training methods etc
That's not taking anything away from Nobby who transformed Crusaders into a play-off side.
Seems to me the BOD doesn't have the b***s to make that change...

Our main problem is we change our game plan to much when players are missing.

I'd have said the opposite. I'd have said that our main problem was defaulting to 5 drives and a kick when we have players missing rather than replacements able to simply fill the gap.

How is that the opposite Dave?

We've both agreed when players are missing we change our game plan.

I watched them 'live' once last season v Catalans and they were awesome - Longy ran the show and I can't think of a bad performance - O'Meley,Whiting and Yeaman especially were immense against a decent Catalans side - can't see any major problems for you this season especially with the addition of Sharp & Westerman - still the same coach tho' ................

No they didn't we had the highest season ticket sales in the league.
