Has he been offered a new contract yet? I think it's nailed on that he should, he's been solid all year and won't be on a huge wage, and with the rumours of Radford leaving, we need him for next year.

As much as he's been an important member of our squad, for the past couple of seasons, he really hasnt stood up to the play, he rarely breaks a tackle, and i dont think hes that good in defence, if he goes, i wish him well, and will always remember him being part of the CC team of 2005!!

Looks like we might be getting it right with player valuations on contracts , does a job dowesy but again can do better and shouldn't pay over the odds for him

If he's offered a 2 year deal with better pay then he's likely to leave, just didnt think there would be many clubs interested

should only be offering a 1 year deal IMO, he still does an ok job, but 'ok' players won't bring trophies.

I'd love to keep Dowsey, his form this year has been good, he's been with the club for 8 seasons now and you cannot fault his loyalty or commitment to Hull.

Those that say things like 'average', 'never breaks a tackle' etc, clearly don't see the bigger picture. Dowsey isn't in the side to break tackles, he's in the side to take the ball in time and time again, and to tackle his heart out - giving the showmen like O'Meley, Moa, Manu etc a much neeed breather.

The problem in the past has been that there's too many of these players in the side at the same time. With Cusack and possibly Radford going, his qualities will become more evident and he'll have a bigger effect on the team than he does now.

Some posters on here seem to expect us to sign four barnstorming props! Do anyother teams have four of these or do they compliment them with a hard worker grafter?

I agree with that.
I've never been his biggest fan but it was always just as much to do with having him, Radford AND Cusack in the same 17 which, for me, is poor. With those two gone, maybe Dowes value may rise a little but I'm not too bothered whether he stays or goes but that would obviously depend on who comes in to replace him.

I disagree with you completely, Dowes has been very lucky to have a SL career. For me, he offers no go forward, no dynamism, poor offloading and no physicality in defence. People say he tries hard and yes he does, but effort unfortunately doesn't necessarily mean impact. It is my belief that every player who takes the pitch should be able to add something, Dowes fills a place, no more.

Dowes has been an excellent servant, missed about 10 games in 8 years that is a no mean feat.

Yes, he may be an 'average' prop but all teams have them and need them and for me he is worth another year or 2

Well said Karl. Every pack needs balance and Dowes is a workhorse who grafts away for the side often doing all the unglorious work. He injury record has been good and he has been pretty consistent during his time with Hull. IF he leaves then he will go with fond memories as far as I am concerned.

Personally, I'd like to see 1 of Dowes or Radford stay and a new prop come in, and of those 2 Dowes would be my preference. We should only be letting both go if we have someone signed up (hopefully LMS) and Lauaki/Fitzgibbon is to be at prop next year.

Every side needs player's like Dowesy. He has been an unsung hero for me over the last 7 years. His work ethic,attitude and professionalism is outstanding and for a prop who can play as many minutes as he can to miss only very few games with injury over the years is quite remarkable.

It's a sad day when your primary assets as a player at an elite, supposedly top, rugby league club is that you try hard and don't miss many games!
