| A WINNER like Andrew Johns, inside knowledge on the oz mentality and will get a lot of respect from the england youth tomkins and eastmond would idolise him. Johns could mastermind a game plan for the 2013 wc.

| Other than who takes over. One big question in the wake of the Smith era should be have we moved forward. Personally I don't think we have. He held on to too many older players when he should have been bringing in the younger stars. Not so much this year as he has thrown caution to the wind, but certainly last year he had too many over the hill players.
We still have problems especially in the centres and half backs. Yes the two halves yesterday will be star players and potential legends, but look who they were up against. Lockyer. He started his international career at full back iirc. He learnt the international game before being pitched into the middle. We on the other hand have to pitch them straight in.
We have some players with massive potential but even Wayne Bennett would struggle to gell them as a solid unit to challenge even the Kiwis who really didn't look as if they were up for much this time round.
I would pitch in a young British coach with experienced support. Then set them the task of making us champs in 2013. As Clarkey said its almost a olympic system where we for go everything with the one goal of being world champs. Only then will the sport ever be taken seriously in the UK beyond Yorkshire Lancashire and Cumbria.
I would also try and entice Mike Ford Joe Lydon back from Union. I would also suggest Edwards but I fear he is lost to the game.

I was recently discussing Shaun Edwards with some Northampton Saints supporters and [ithey[/i (Union) hold him in high regard.
I heard some very good stories about him and some of his coaching techniques. For me he has the Knowledge and the passion to succeed at International level.

| whoever takes the next coaching role must have no links to any clubs, i would like to see a coach who goes to as many games as possible over a weekends fixtures so he can properly see what players have on offer, therefore the new coach could possibly see 6 teams in one weekend, not just his own team and the opposition
the one thing that annoyed me with tony smith was that we had more players from his own club that only managed a 10th place position in superleague!

I agree edwards has been a master technician in union and league legend would take a princelly sum to bring him back from 15 man but the RL should try for the good of the country! If Tomkins is hailed as the new Edwards let the old Edwards nurture him.

| IMO John Kear..
Whoever takes it SHOULD NOT be a clubs coach/Director of football etc, they should be independent.

| English coach for me. So John Kear is probably the best option then Brian Noble. Other Super League options would be McDermott, Agar and McNamara.

i would'nt go anywhere near them coaches
kear and noble failed before
agar, mcdermott and mcnamara are less than average sl coaches
wayne bennett would be my choice, been there with the aussies, helped NZ win the world cup with Kearney, (also wouldn't have best mate syndrome when picking the england squad )

| I'm not bothered about nationality of the coach , But i would like someone who likes to promote an expansive game plan. We'll never beat the Aussies at their own game .We must play to the strengths of the English game.

I would try and lure Shaun Edwards over again though I doubt he would come just yet.
The Aussies seem to have a team of coaches usually ex internationals looking after their international squads (and Origin) maybe we should utilise some of our ex GB players such as Denis Betts, Phil Clarke, etc. in similar roles.
