We always hear people saying our team or many of its players lack a professional attitude and winning mentality, and this is one of the major reasons behind our decline.

As I don't live in Hull and don't know any players I'd love to know who has the right attitude and mentality and who are the bad apples.

If people don't want to mention names of the bad ones, please name those who do have the right attitude and then we can work out the bad ones by elimination!

I'll start by naming 2 I think do have the right mentality:

I think that the discipline/professionalism thing is probably the one overriding issue. You just compare what we know about certain individuals and compare it to other sports. Im a keen athletics fan and when you hear any of them speak about their training and lifestyle and then look at their physical condition you can see the difference. A lot dont or rarely drink alcohol and smoking is a fundamental bad idea. I heard an interview the other day where one international said that they maybe treat themselves to a takeaway once every few months! Thats the difference between a 'professional' and actual professionalism. Im not saying that players shouldnt have a social life but for me it needs to be controlled. They are paid very well and should make sacrifices in line with that

Found it particularly alarming to see Jamie Thackray on the West Stand concourse at half time dressed in jeans and t-shirt with a hot dog in one hand and pint in the other. Would have thought that players not selected would be made to attend suited up and mix with the corporates to be honest.

if he did that then that is just a disgrace isnt it? he shouldnt be seen doing that, he is a professional sportsman. its ridiculous. even if he does it in his own time he should know better than to do it in public. but maybe that is just a sign of how high players such as him regard their status as hull fc players

This is a bugbear of mine. Although Thackray wasnt in the squad or even involved in the match day hospitality is it too much to ask for a player to wear club dress code on a match day? If he is desperate for a beer then I am sure he could leave straight after the game away from his place of work.

The small things often sum up the professionalism of a club and this certainly sums up where FC are at the moment. UNPROFESSIONAL.

Agreed andymacca, I'm an athletics coach at a local level and it's a given that all athletes, male or female don't smoke or heavy drink during the entire season - for some it could be year long depending on their event. There is a self dicipline within the athletes and they know that if they want to succeed, they will not do these things. It's a short sporting life and they will have plenty of time to enjoy a good booze up when they have finished. I'm not against a few pints, far from it but if sports people want to be the best then don't cross the line so to speak. Also, at local and national athletics events, all althletes wear their clubs dress it's called pride!
