Rovers will be , even if everyone was 18 in there team, Stan would push it right up

I feel Hull should try and tempt Tommy Martyn out of retirement. Him and Longy were a great partnership in their day.

I agree we should be signing Martyn but I don't think Longy's ready yet. I feel we should be tempting Goulding out of retirement to partner Tommy.

In the Australia team for the Anzac Test were Lockyer (32), Civoneciva (33) and Price (35).

TBH I'm more interested in how players perform than how many candles they have on their birthday cake.

We do have plenty of youngsters at the club, and depending on how recruitment pans out a number could be featuring next season. I doubt the average age of the squad will get too high.

Yeah totally, Bradfords policy of running a (politely put) very experienced squad has helped them enormously. It's probably the best Bradford side I've seen in the super league. Hopefully we can tempt Macca here and then we have some seriously exciting times ahead.

Hull will have an old squad but what they should do is replace these older players with players from the youth teams over the next couple of years and build a team which will be playing together for a long time. I'm not saying it's wrong to have older players it's good to have a few to pass on their experience as long as you don't just keep replacing them with other older player.

Jason Smith was 33 when he 'retired' from super league, yet he managed to play another 58 games in the NRL for Canberra and NQ over another 3 seasons

'Clever' players can play longer, as they no longer rely on their pace they may have had.

You don't think that Bradford's problems have been down to the quality of player and balance of the squad rather than pure age then?

Their best player this season has been Morrison, and he's the oldest member of their squad.

One of our main problems has been lack of experience and proven leadership for a good while now. These signings are obvioulsy an attempt to correct that.

Older than Menzies



Having older players isnt a problem, in fact it can ofter benift the team as long as you have young players coming through to replace them (which we do).

I would guess that Saints best starting 13 this season is the oldest in SL, but they are are top of the table.

To be fair that youngster menzies has been outstanding for them IMO think he his their top try scorer aswell.

I've heard that was the age on his membership form at Brough Golf Club - joined this year I think - so it must be true. In fact... it's FACT!

Menzies is probably staying for next season too.

It's all about having the right mix of youth and experience, I am happy that the blend we have is about right so far for 2010.

I think their problems were due to too many of there squad being 30 or over and all those players hitting a decline at the same time with no contingency plan in place, e.g 5 or 6 youngsters good enough to take their places. If it's true that next year 7 of our starting 13 will be over 30 this makes me very worried indeed. We've just had two nothing seasons and it would break my heart to have 1 season of slight promise and then another two seasons of pain.
