We won't have paid him his wages. He was never an employee.

We may have paid him a proportion of any signing-on fee, if there was one. That might be claimed back.

Or we may have given him a loan against his wages, which will now need to be repaid.

There are numerous possibilities, but I'm willing to bet we've spent the absolute minimum possible.

Whatever we have paid, and in what manner, I don't hold anyone at FC to blame. I actually admire Crocker/FC for staying "loyal". I think it would be interesting for us all to know though what effect this has on this years cap, don't you think? Imagine if we could throw Crockers entire annual salary at a top top player for this half season left? (visas obviously not withstanding if from overseas)

Can we, pay a player more this year and less say for the next 2. Pro Rata fro example give em Crockers entire annual salary this year, so then for the next 2/3 years something more reasonable? Would be a large incentive would it not?

I'm not "blaming" anyone, as has been said, fair do's to Crocker, he waited. Cant have a go at the board, it's not them that turnes the visa down.

HOWEVER, there still must be some loss to Hull FC financially. I just wondered how much!

Rule stated that the club hadn't been 'left exposed' by the Crocker deal falling through. That would indicate that it's cost us little or nothing. Certainly the impression being given by the club and commentators is that we have all of Crocker's salary to spend now necessary. I don't think there are even any cap issues to worry about as he was never formally a contracted player as he failed to fulfil the basic condition of getting a visa.

Would be nice to have it confirmed officially, mind.

As far as throwing money at a 'top top player' - who did you have in mind? There's been some discussion on other threads, but money is only one part of the equation. You've also got to find a player who wants to come and a club willing to let their best player go mid-season. And he needs to be from the UK (or EU at least) or he won't get here in time.


This sounds very similar to what Wigan got done for. Not sure if it would be within the 'spirit of the cap' or not TBH.

You are slacking.... You forgot the cost of replacing shirts with Crockers name on.

You might 'Love them to come out and say how much we have p*ssed down the drain...." WHY? why do we need to know, what are we looking for here? A couple of grand down the drain to beat the club with? The club, with the exception of leaving it late to get an MP involved (who was probably next to useless anyway as he had a few more pressing matters to deal with) has done little wrong here. I will judge their finacial performance when the year end figures come out! In the short term at least as far as the business is concerned we have saved ourselves, or the Government has saved us, £130,000 this season at least!!! How we reinvest that saving remains to be seen!

There are bound to have been some admin costs including Solicitors, and a few shirts to replace, and I bet James Rules phone bill is a bit steep too! But the fact is that we will never know the costs of the aborted attempt to get crocker here simply because to an organisation that turns over around £4.5m per annum it will be negligable. We are not (sadly) shareholders so we have no right to know, however had he been paid then as fans we would probably had some concerns but only because we would see it as a possible drain on finance that we could have spent elsewhere. Reardon, Crocker and Lueuki have been paid nothing (so far) so our cap funds are intact.

I am more interested myself to know what we will do with the money we have spare this year now the Crocker deal has fallen through. Add his wage to the difference between Byrnes Salary and his settlement and I guess we have a lot!!

Leave this one alone, the club will give us all plenty to have a go at in the future, thy always do!!! On this one, by and large, it is others that are to blame!

The wont waste money, the next trip to oz they go on will be money well spent too.

And they dont have to waste time checking players Visa applications to make sure they have sent in the correct information, no they should just sit back and leave it to the players and there agents

Rule has far more pressing things to do like promoting his Tell The Facts Show and looking suave for his weekly appearance on Hull FC TV and making sure he doesn miss an Ionians game that conflicts with an Hull one.
