So when a school has a fund-raising event and the head teacher has a photo in the paper handing over a cheque to the charity concerned, having donated no money from the school itself, how is that OK when this isn't?

because it usually says something like "Mr useless teacher so ended up head is shown above handing over a cheque for xxxx, which was raised by staff and pupils at St Winifreds" or some such.

Everyone normally gets credit for their efforts and also everyone will have had a choice with regards to donating. Both of those things are not happening here.

Says who? Isn't this our charity for the whole year? Just because they have raised cash this way for one particular instance doesn't mean they haven't donated in loads of other ways and will continue to do so. Anyway the club have raised the cash by raising the price of the tickets. Fans buying tickets have paid £1 extra and the club have chosen to donate this to charity. As an organisation they are raising the cash and, just as any other organisation that raises money for charity, they take the credit. I dont see the problem, I donate far more than £1 anyway and if the club gets credit for donating then the fans get the credit by association.

in a word, rubbish.
There is no option in this, you can't go to the game without "donating", we also don't know what the true amount of money raised will be, the club will make sure they get a %ge off the top, believe me.

I am not talking about other possible events I am talking about the derby event, this £15k they are mentioning. The fans have paid the money and Hull FC have not donated anything. Maybe if they were matching the amount raised by fans I could agree with it a little more.
Also what credit would Rovers fans get? They have donated more than Hull FC as a club have.

| No matter how much is raised I still think the club should donate something. It's a matter of principle.
I think they should pay the £1 per season pass holder to take the amount upto the actual gate figure.
Don't see why pass holders shouldn't pay though.
How can a club take credit for a donation that neither they nor their hard core fan base contributes to. In my opinion it stinks and doesn't show the club in a good light.

Their is an option. Dont go. It might not be the option you want but it IS an option. This is the chosen charity of the club for the year so they have decided to raise money for this charity by increasing the price for a game that is extremely high demand and donating the extra revenue to their chosen charity. I really dont see the problem, its not forced because you dont have to go and I cant believe people want "credit" for paying an extra £1 on the gate.

In this one particular instance you mean? Taken to its extreme any money the club donates was generated from the fans anyway so the club should never get any credit at all as the money always comes from the fans.
If people want to be so petty they need "credit" for donating £1 to charity I feel sorry for them.

They why are all the fans not paying? Season ticket holders and the club don't contribute but all fans having to be buy a ticket do.
That's fair?
Either way I have my ticket and don't mind donating at all but I do mind the way it has been done and the way its being presented.

Its the clubs charity for the whole year. I would think they will be donating in several other ways during the year so why is it so important on this one particular occasion?
The club are taking "credit" because the money is being raised at an event they are hosting as a direct result of their actions. If the game didn't go ahead or the club hadnt decided to increase the price and give it to charity the money wouldn't be there.

Yes this instance, y'know the one the club have a big article about, yeah that one. I'll comment on the others when I kow more about them.
Please don't patronise me, I have no issue donating to charity although I don't like being told which ones and how much. I also want no credit for it but I don't excpect Hull FC to be waving their arms saying look what we've done, when actually they have done feckall other than collect money.

Robbo only does patronising recently.

Again you are taking this one particular event as the only donation the club is making through the whole year. For all you know £2 of every season pass sold went to the charity so I've given twice as much as you and am doubley annoyed at not getting any credit for it.
This is just one way the club decided to try and raise money during the whole year.

The idea I like but its unbalanced. Season Pass holders and the club are not donating but other fans HAVE to.
All the fans attending should have a way of donating and none of it should be forced.
As for the club, why could they not have raised tickets by £1 and then agreed to match it?

Would any other fund raisers match what they raise?
Load of fuss for nothing IMO.
