| I've been going to watch hull fc for over 25 years now and in that time I'm finding it hard to remember any piece of ball in hand skill then what Rangi chase produced on Saturday night . Simply astonishing piece of skill , can anyone remember anything that come close to IT ?

Jon Sharp with his exaggerated overhead pass to Richard Gay (which they pulled off more than once), for comedy value alone it was a thing of genius.

| I think I must be the only person in the rugby league world who is not that impressed with it, he does the little flick but goes nowhere he's just running sideways granted he fooled the fc defence into thinking he'd given the ball to the inside runner but that could of been achieved with a simple dummy, now if he'd of done the flick and then beaten a man or broke the line then I would be impressed, I actually think the offload out the back door is the better piece of skill.
Oh and if it wasn't for the pathetic defending earlier on in that set to let him beat three men then he wouldn't of been in that position and then the tackling just after the flick was even worse.

Doesn't matter if anyone is impressed or not, it was effective and our dumb players fell for it hook line and sinker..again. Take the chance to smash the living carp out of him at the first opportunity, if he offloads, so be it, so long as you aren't late/high he'd be less likely to be fannying around if he knows he's going to get smashed everytime.

But even in a sport as tough as rugby league, perhaps especially in a sport as tough as rugby league, it isn't just about mundane utility, there's room for the odd extravagant flourish. Rene Higuita could have just caught the ball in nets for Colombia at Wembley - and nobody in this country would remember his name or that otherwise unremarkable game.

The whistle had already gone in that game though.

| If Sa hadn't been injured and just smashed him when he had the opportunity we'd have won the game. No one seems to remember that he'd tried it 3 times previously and twice it had gone in to touch.

| Some of Benji Marshall's flick passes have been sublime.
The one he gave Pat Richards in the 2005 (twas a great year ) NRL Grand Final was different gravy.

Really? We've not had anyone as good as that in our team in the last 10 years since Smith. And if we did have him we'd all be crowing like mad

| ive no love of chase, but flair like he has seems to be a lost art nowadays.uk rugby league used to have plenty of players with similar skills.crane, newlove, lockwood, pinner, norton to name just a few..real flair and skill seems to be coached out of them now and consequently the game is poorer for it.

| It's had 2.6m views on the Sport Bible Facebook page. The best marketing for our sport for a while that. The one he did against Catalans a couple of years ago was pretty good too.

| It was an exceptional piece of skill, and we should applaud that in our game. Let's not forget we are in the entertainment industry and that was definitely entertaining.
He did something similar at craven park last year which was more of a reverse inside ball and they broke clear from it and scored, was excellent play and the full east stand applauded the skill level shown.
We should encourage more of this, people like him, watkins, jamie lyon etc is what we want to see and something the aussies do consistently.
I think the biggest problem is that chase is sometimes a little grub and people are struggling to comprehend something positive he did due to his lets say chequered history. As somebody mentioned, the exposure it has brought to the game is an added bonus

Agree, the flair players in all sport grab the headlines and promote the sport.
This thread would be sticky if he had signed for us, probably alongside a sticky thread titled "Chase him out, hes cack"

Don't think it had. Watched it back on a well known website and play goes on after the save for a good few seconds to the end of the clip.

| Whatever your opinion about the guy - and he's done some things not to be proud of - that was a top notch display on Sunday. If that had been a union player, the TV and newspapers would still be wetting themselves now.

My own memory was that it would have counted as a goal if he'd misjudged it, and from what I can find online, I'd stick by that.
One possibility i saw suggested is that the linesman raised his flag, but the referee didn't blow as no England player was interfering with play, that being a recently introduced reinterpretation of the offside rule, back then. Basically Higuita thought he had a free shot at it, but didn't. He does look a bit ruefully apologetic afterwards, watching it back.
My point though is that pleasure to be derived from a piece of play, beyond it's simple effectiveness. Tbf, it is easier to appreciate when it's not against your own team. Westerman chucked a flamboyant dummy to score or create a try against us a while back that somebody had as an avatar for a while. I had to enjoy the beauty of that through slightly gritted teeth (although we might have won the game despite it, I can't recall).
