Sky Sports have been innovtaive in all its sporting developments over the past 20 years, but I can't see this one lasting.

After 30 minutes tonight, the new 'Margin Meter' predicted that Widnes would win by 12 points. Wakefield then run out winners by 18 points.

Classic. I hope someone hasn't spent their mortgage on developing it.



Most Rugby League games ebb and flow and mid game you'd normally have more chance on pinning the tail on a donkey, than you would devising some mathematic formula to forecast the final result.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wakefield's winning run lasts longer than the 'Margin Meter'!

Funniest thing is that it's constantly changing - Oh, look, with 5 minutes to go and wakefield winning by 8 it's predicting wakefield will win by 8. genius. Think I did something similar on my 48k spectrum

Would loved to have seen it during all those games a few years back were Saints ran c20 points in the last four minutes to over turn Warrington.



Think all clubs could point to a game or two a season were they are losing badly in the first half and run out winners in the second half - or vice versa.

It's a truly awful gimmick, quite embarrassing.

IDIOTIC just like the developer

It was awful, the presenters/analysts should be able to tell the viewers how they think the game is going, and how momentum is shifting based on the stats already available and their knowledge of the game.

i.e it was obvious to even a casual viewer that Widnes were tiring and making more errors, and therefore would struggle to maintain their lead.

I am a bit of a stats freak, and do on occasions enjoy what Phil Clarke brings to the table.

The margin-meter has been implimented in the completely wrong way! It doesn't predict the result, as they keep saying. It never was going to, and it's quite ridiculous that they keep saying it will. The fact that they keep selling it this way means that people have gotten the completely wrong end of the stick and are (rightly) ridiculing it.

The margin-meter should basically just give you a snap shot of who has the momentum and what the final outcome would be like if they keep it up. The fact that they keep saying "it is predicting this to happen" means that they are just setting themselves up to fail 99/100, because we all know that the momentum changes throughout a game. The fact that on top of that they keep making such a big deal about it means that they are highlighting the fact that they are setting themselves up to fail!

Stats are only useful to those that understand them. Phil Clarke apparently doesn't understand all of them. Eddie and Stevo don't have a clue.

Just backs up that majority of stats are totally pointless. Better game than i expected though. Thought Amor and Aiton looked really good for the Wildcats as did Mathers after his mare for the 1st try.

made me laugh how Clarky got a semi-on when it was right for about 5 seconds in the second half then Wakey scored 3 quick try's.

I didnt watch the game live, but was following on Twitter. I could work out what it was, then I watched the re-run later..........OH DEAR!!......nearly as bad as the Power Play idea in the Aussie game this morning.

.....and then on top of that, whats the idea of interviewing players on the pitch between tries? It felt awkward.

We already have one of the most entertaining, exciting and brutal products in sport, why do they feel the need to mess about with it in every off-season?

Stats are only useful if used right.
I wouldn't say the majority of them are pointless.

Did anyone else notice, at the start of Fridays game, they had the name of the player tackled next to the metres gained. They kept getting it wrong and it wasn't used at all in tonights

Aren't 98.437% of all statistics made up on the spot

I've noticed at the masters tennis they sometimes mic up a player and talk to him between points(not all btw). It was rather insightful but I'm not sure if RL is ready for this just yet.
