FORMER Gold Coast wonderkid Jordan Rankin says he’s ready to return to the NRL after overcoming the mental weights which have bogged down his promising career.
Rankin’s name was etched in rugby league history when in 2008 he became the third youngest first grade debutant ever after ex-Titans coach John Cartwright thrust him into the NRL aged just 16 years and 238 days.
He was supposed to develop into one of the greatest Gold Coast league products ever. The Palm Beach Currumbin student was destined for big things.
But the fairytale didn’t pan out.
Rankin played just 17 NRL matches in six seasons at the Titans, eventually seeking a release to join Hull FC in the English Super League where his road to redemption started.
He managed 22 appearances for Hull last year, scoring nine tries and setting up 13 in an encouraging season which saw him feature mainly at halfback and five-eighth.
Aged 23, Rankin has been earmarked as a fullback this season and believes he’s ready to make the trip back to where it all began.

| I'd offer him that NRL clause, don't think he's ready for NRL yet but wouldn't want him ending up at another SL club and ripping us apart.

| Seems very close to his family and can understand it. But would be gutted to see him go nonetheless. Superb attitude, really "gets" it.

| Not sure why we have offered him a 3 year deal, not sure he has proved his is consistently good enough for that length of a deal, we have Shaul, Naughton, Abdul and HTW coming through in the positions he plays. Personally I'd wait and see how he goes and if he plays in the 17 regularly before offering him a one year extension.

Just said same elsewhere. Based on this I'd take the offer back off the table and put the money to use elsewhere. Id put it towards tying down micky P n thompson for a start

Quote JORDAN Rankin says he wants to return ‘home’ to the NRL after revealing he’s been offered a three-year deal by Hull FC.
Speaking in an Australian newspaper interview with the Gold Coast Bulletin, both Rankin and his agent Tas Bartlett confirm the Black and Whites are trying to keep the 23-year-old on a long-term deal

I think he's great. Never seen him have a less than 7/10 game for us. Impact n break/try scoring threat from a prop. Very unique n don't think Radford's received enough credit for what's been achieved with thompson

| Give him the NRL clause. It doesn't mean he's going to get an offer from the NRL but if he does I too would rather he went back to Oz than joined another Super League club.

| Done really well for us and I'd like him to stay although a three year deal is perhaps a little excessive.
I certainly don't blame him should he want to return home, he's still very young and is over here with no family unlike most other imports.

| Even though he is a decent player who works hard I dont think we should be handing out a. 3 year deal thhis early when he doesn't even have a first team place. We should be focusing on finding a younger replacement for Pryce who won't last forever.

I'm hopeful that we have a replacement for Pryce already at the club in either Abdul or HTW.

| Can't fault Rankin's effort and commitment, would like him to stay. Not sure he has got the "wow" factor but hope he gets a run of games this season to show what he can do with better players around him.
Can understand him missing his family as he is over here without a partner or children. I wouldn't mind being his surrogate mum, he can join my family for tea anytime!

That's unfair. People react differently in these situations. Maybe Rankin is closer to his family than Vaikona was to his? Who knows?
Personally I some wish fans wouldn't turn on players as soon as they express a desire to move on. I'm sure Rankin wouldn't want to play for anyone else in SL, he just wants to go home.
Alternatively, maybe someone could fix Jordan up with a Hull lass to tempt him to stay?

| Will be sorry to see Jordan Rankin leave but his agent has stated his priority is the return to Australia in 2016 so little point offering him a 3 year contract with a release clause.May as well just let him see out his existing contract.
