Quote ="Hull FC since 50s"Brian played in the 1959 Challenge Cup Final against Wigan. We went down on the overnight special from Paragon Station, I won some money playing cards, we had breakfast at Joe Lyons and all I remember about the game is being seated a mile high and watching little men run about the Wembley turf. Not like the giants I saw at the Boulevard when I was 4 foot and a peanut. Happy days. RIP Brian.'"
I went from Hull to the 1959 match on a 'shared' van trip. It was a glorious sunny day and I was standing near the sticks at the Hull end(first half). The following year I was in the same position to see Hull get hammered by Wakefield being in London at the time. Brian was injured for the match, as were a few others, so we fielded a very weakened team. The only bright spot for Hull on that day was that Tommy Harris won the Lance Todd trophy having played with an injury for most of the match.
