Well that was a long night. The real shame was the beer hadn't quite had chance to kick in before the harsh reality was upon us so the last 20 of the first half was particularly bad, after half time tho the mix of futility and bitter gave a warmer, fuzzier edge to it all which was a bit nicer at least.
So, at the risk of understatement; not good. The ease of the first try had "oh dear this is the first of many" written all over it. Let's be fair Hudds played very well, our wheels fell off early doors and the inevitable slide into heads-in-hands commenced.
The blame game? Has to lie with the coach really - players definitely bear some portion of it too of course on an individual "hmm why don't I try aimlessly flapping at this on rushing forward rather than good ol' tacklin'", but in reality we lacked structure, game plan and strategy. Hudds were always going to start hard and I don't think Gentle anticipated this as much as the rest if us did somehow. Once they had blown us away after 15-20 mins it was all too late and chasing a game only makes things worse. Fundamentally we played "dumb footie" (to use the parlance of our antipodean leader) from the start and was doomed thereafter.
I feel sorry for the fans who went, also the fans that didn't and for those players who have given their all only to be left with a sour taste for a little while (it will subside, it always does, fear not). And whilst Mr G undoubtedly bears the brunt of blame for a lot of things, at least spare a thought for his poor defenceless bottom hole which will likely be home to Pearsons fist right about now like a scene from all creatures great and small.
Do I feel better this morning no I don't, I work in London and they don't know much about Hull Fc. I have converted a few to watch them on TV and even they are taking the out of me this morning.
They only get to see them on TV but after watching Wembley and then last nights well cannot even describe it effort they are just laughing at me.
Hull as a City doesnt hold much regard down here and both our rugby teams are doing helping right now.
