Could I perhaps explain what I have known to be a darby for most of my last 80+years. It's a plastering tool we used to use in the old days, from way back, when lath and plaster wall's and ceilings HAD to have the backing coat finished straight. Like a wooden float, but 4feet long, 4-5 inches wide, and 3/4 inch thick, with a handle near each end. I served a 6 year indentured apprenticeship in the 40's and 50's, and used one many a time until quite recently, although the one I have now is made of alloy. Most of these self styled "craftsmen" nowadays wouldnt know how to use one.
