I have no doubt that the clubs themselves could maybe do more, but should they really? I think they should encourage but certainly not pay for it.
At the end of the day the majority of the squad will be on an above average salary doing something they love. Why should the club spend thousands of pounds a year giving players skills for when they retire. Fact is some players won't make it and will drift out the game in their early twenties, some players would take the training then sign for another club, it is of no benefit to the club other then been a financial burden.
So it is down to the individual. Players know they are gonna retire one day so they should invest some of their wages into setting themselves up for later life
This is the part that will make many people have no sympathy.
Quote Full time professionalism was amazing. Not having to fight through the traffic to get on site in the morning was really welcome and the idea that I could be home by 2pm before the kids for a sneaky afternoon nap sounded great. All of this type of thing was alien to me until I signed full time."'"
Maybe instead of having a nap he could have done something more productive. What time did he start training? 9 or 10. 5 hour day then a nap sounds like he had plenty of time to do some studying etc.
